Another great idea

The state thought it would be a good idea to put otters into the rivers here. The liberals loved it. Otters are cute.
They went from the big rivers into smaller rivers into creeks into little creeks into drainage ditches into spillways for everybody's ponds and ate every flipping fish we had.
In fact they eat every living thing.
Danged otters can stay under water for a long time.
We have beavers now also. They have killed every Ash along the creeks.
Don't mind the beavers so much but the loss of everyone's fish and the fish out of the creek is bad news.
The endangered mussels are not endangered any more. They are gone.
I guess the impact study for new bridges will go faster now.

And, they can be aggravatin as [beeep] to catch. Very intelligent critter! Oddest one I read on that was using Hay to set your traps in. Otters apparently love playing in hay, sliding through it, rolling around in it, whatever. Sounds weird I know...

I mowed my yard towards my ponds last year, piled the clippings around the edge of the ponds since they were low and I wanted to try and prevent erosion in the areas with no grass. Sure enough... Otter showed up, commenced to eating my fish up.

Tried trapping him to no avail. Read the part about the hay and decided I had built his dream playground. I went out and mowed everything short and blew all the grass and clippings well away from the ponds, doubled up on my traps, stepped up looking for a chance to simply shoot his aggravatin little carcass... And, sure enough, when the grass went away from the edge of the ponds, he left too.

A buddy of mine thought they were cute when they got into his lake. Then he caught one eating about a 5 pound bass on shore. Weren't so cute after that,he used them for 22-250 target practice.

We have the same thing on the North Fork of the Holston where I grew up. Pretty much a waste of time going fishing as the otters have taken care of that.

Yeah, mine left about half a 3 pounder laying on the bank, and tracks in the mud where he drug it up on shore, is how I figured out he was in there. Had seen a splash or two that didn't look like gators, but couldn't tell for certain. Not sure if he came back and ate the bass, one of the gators got it, or if the buzzards cleaned it up, but it disappeared a day or two later.

Well the rules of engagement have changed.
Unfortunately there may be collateral damage. It will be minimal as very few friendlies are left.
This is what unchecked immigration leaves you with.
Before you know it all your fish are gone and the otter move on to the next pond as they never meant to stay past the easy catch to start with.
