Another gun counter funny

I made my way into Cabela's yesterday and picked up a few various pounds of powder. I ask the guy at the counter if he could get them for me from the back room. I gave him my list and back he came with the powder. At that point he said to me "what are you using the IMR 4064 for?" I told him that it was one that I use for my 22-250. He then responded " I have been using that for my 22-250 also, I like it because I can load up about 1300 rounds per pound." "It goes a lot further than some of the others."

I just thanked him for helping and walked away. Now I don't know about you all, but about 200 is about all I get from a pound.

yup....I use Benchmark for my 22-250 and I get just about 200 per pound. These stories are becomming very common here on PM.....

Stories. I'm beginning to think that's all they are.

Just because the guy behind the counter dosent know **** from applesauce in not gonna turn and walk away with out buying what I came to get. I could care less how much or how little he does or does not know.

Not calling anyone a liar do don't get all flustered only that with so many of these happening lately I'm sensing a little bit of a bandwagon type thing

You never know, his pet 22-250 load could be 5.4gr. of 4064.

I will jump on the wagon.

Went to scheels last fall with a buddy looking for a close range over the decoys choke for duck hunting. As we were looking in the locked case of chokes had a salesman come up and ask if we needed any help. Told him what we were looking for. So he ulnocks the case and grabs us a patternmaster long range choke and say this is what you need to use. Told him no we need a over decoys choke ya know close range. Said how about that one with the duck commander on it it says close range. He then says nope this is the one you need handing back the pattern master. It really reaches out there and touches them thats what me and my friends use. Asked again if we could see the other one and he just stood there holding the pattern master looking at us like we were just going to take it because thats all he would show us. So me and my buddy looked at each other turned around and walked out. Went to gander mountain and found a carlson's over decoy choke asked to get it out of the case and bought it. No problems.

Don't know if they work on comishtion at scheels or what. Because the pattern master was like 90 bucks and the one we asked to see was 35 or he thinks over decoys is long range.

When I walk in a place knowing what I want and someone trys telling me it's not what I want, I tend to become a prick. And if they have what I want at the price I want to pay, I walk out with the item. I'm sure some would rather I never come back in their store again.

Oh trust me I will usally tell em how it is. But the dumb look on this guys face I don't think it would of did nothing. Plus having to find my buddies wife in the mall before mall security booted me out would of sucked. If I let loose I let loose. I don't need another disturbing the peace on my record. lol

I'm going to turn the tables on this thread.
I work the gun counter at Academy. While I have personally experienced what you guys are saying, and agree 100%, do you have any idea how many BS stories I have to listen too?
Do you have any idea how many customers don't know jack, but would rather act like they do than ask for help? Trust me, it goes both ways.

No doubt about that. You probably hear more than most since you work in the store everyday.

I will agree there, I'm not picking on all gun counter guys. Many are very up on everything they sell and some they don't. I know what your saying about people coming in and not knowing what they want, need or what they have in the first place. My dad runs a small engine shop. It's funny to listen to them tell their opinion on what went wrong.

I don't even bother answering questions when I buy things. I don't need to explain things to you or justify to you my purchase. I don't want your advice. I don't want to know what your great grand-daddies uncle used to use instead of what I plan to buy.

If I ask for X out of a case and you ask me why I want it, you're going to get a simple answer. I'm the person with the money buying it. Life can be pretty simple.

But thats what your there for. If someone don't know what they need your there to help them figure it out. If someone knows what they need your there to find it for them. The customer is always right, no matter how dumb they are.

I thought this thread was stupid when I read it. Then I went to Dicks Sporting goods this morning. I asked to see the Remington 700 Varmint 22.250 with the X-Mark trigger. The guy told me it was an Accu-trigger. I tried to explain to him that the Accu-trigger was made by Savage and showed him where it said X-Mark on the Remington tag. He flat got pissed and insisted the X-Mark and Accutrigger were the same thing. I didn't buy the gun because he was dumb or rude. I didn't buy the gun because my wife would have chopped my nuts off!!

Stories like these are exactly why I like forums like what's on this site! I do all my research before I enter a store to make a purchase. I can find out just about anything I want that pertains to predator hunting by asking everyone on here. Then when I get to the store I can get exactly what I'm after without asking someone who may be biased or uneducated about my purchase I'm making. Even if the counter guy knows what he's talking about, the last thing I need is someone causing me to change my mind at the last minute and I walk out the door with something I originally had no intentions of purchasing!
