Another Heart Shot

October has been a tough month for me on coyotes. It seems like every foul-up that could go wrong on each stand managed to do so. I set up last night to call a field with about 100 acres in it. My downwind had thousands of acres of harvested beans and corn. In continuing October fashion, I scan the downwind and here is a crippled coyote coming out of those thousands of acres and he is already in my downwind and seems to be getting nervous. I range him at 216 yds. and take the shot. I can see he is hit hard and he runs toward me but he runs out of blood and folds up as he crashes into a field ditch. Nothing else shows but considering the results so far in October, I felt blessed to walk away with one.

Nice Owen, and you had the "green X" on :giggle:. Nice that the ditch was dry and you got a pic of a non-waterlogged coyote.

Thanks guys, but I really don't know why I keep aiming low and getting these heart shots that always run a ways before collapsing. I've got to force myself to shoot higher. Nice catch Mike on the green crosshair. Actually, I had turned on the ballistics app to change my velocity for the 50 sp to 3,300 rather than 3,200. When I went to range the shot, it took me to the ballistic reticle and I didn't have time to turn it off, but it worked out okay and didn't change my hold anyway. I may use it sometime on a hung-up coyote at 300 or so. Sometimes (rarely) they do stay stationary long enough to turn the app on and do that.

It may not have planted it on the spot, and wasn’t where you intended it to be, but still a very effective shot! Congrats on another one!
