Anybody know about some of the regulations on hunting coyotes in Kansas?
Seasons?
Night w/ lights?
Stuff like that.
Thanks!

Thanks, Brian. I was hoping that we could hunt pheasants during the day and coyotes at night. Guess not.
I'll tell ya', the only two posts of yours that I've seen over here have been a great help! Did you just find PM or what?

You're welcome songdogger.

Actually, I have been with PM since it's inception. I am even a Moderator on the "Big Game" section. I started a new job in March, so I don't get much chance to post. I do check in with my forum and cruise the board pretty regularly but haven't had much opportunity to post with any regularity lately. Once things settle down a bit I will jump right back in with you guys. I did want to respond to your question though. I have done quite a bit of hunting in the southwestern part of Kansas the last couple of years. I even drew a Whitetail tag for this coming season, so I will be back up there this fall. Once my deer hunting is done, the coyotes will be in trouble again.

P.S.
The post counts were somehow reset a few months back, so it is a little deceiving. Thanks for asking and for your kind words in respect to my answers.

That's right. I haven't posted much in the Big Game section and just plumb forgot! I appreciate the info. Take care.

No Problem.

Pheasant hunting is actually how I became aquainted with the area. That relationship led to predator hunting and now to deer hunting. Help the landowner out with his predator situation and a whole other world of hunting may open up to you.

Good luck,

Brian

How's about the non res deer tags? I checked on the their site but it's pretty new and not a whole lot of clear info. I know they just recently opened up the non res deer hunting. I'd like to time them all together at least once. I pretty much have permission to hunt anything walking or flying there, already. Can't beat a deal like that!
I meant to ask, also, if y'all had hunted any of the walk-in spots. sounds like you may be able to hunt coyotes in those spots, too. I don't know for sure, but I'll get all the skinny on it before I go. Just thought you might know. thanks

songdogger,

To get a non-res whitetail tag is solely on a draw basis. Unit 18, which is where we are talking about, encompasses eight counties. Kansas only allowed 32 non-res tags for that unit this year. Making my draw similar to winning the lottery. 32 transferable landowner tags were available for draw as well, making a total of 64 whitetail buck tags. Deadline for applications is on May 31. Some landowners, may still have their tags available, but be aware the going rate is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000 for each tag. I do know that antlerless tags are available directly from the wildlife office to non-res hunters at a nominal cost of $10.50 each. Up to two tags can be purchased by any individual regardless of whether or not you are the owner of a draw tag. If you are looking for some table fare that is definately the way to go. A southwestern Kansas whitetail doe can tip the scales at a light 200-250 lbs. Making that the best deal per pound for venison that I know of.

Coyotes can be hunted on private property, with written permission, as well as on any unposted walk-in area, year round. Fox and bobcat are off limits except during furbearers season.

The Pratt, Wildlife office has a staff of people who are very helpful. They can be contacted at (620)672-5911 or at Kansas Hunting Regulations

Hope this helps,

If you have any other questions about big game hunting we can discuss that in the Big Game forum if you like.

Brian

Don't know why I even browsed the Ks wildlife and parks site. You've pretty much answered everything that I was wondering. Much appreciated. See ya' later.
