Wanted to see if anyone has tried out or useing the simmons prohunter 6x18x40 and how is it holding up
I'm thinking about buying one for the 17 hmr

Thanks

Stay away from Simmons! That is my experience.
I have the same model you are describing.....it is now on my sons pellet gun. From the Simmons i have bought, I should have bought a NC Star. We all know their earlier reputations.

Spend a little more and look at Bushnell, burris, nikon prostaff

I agree with emsem911....I had one Simmons and it was not very good. I can't believe Les Johnson on Predator Quest likes Simmons scopes. Of course they sponser and pay the bills for him but I don't think they are any quality at all. That said I bought my Simmons about 10 yrs. ago so maybe they have improved but I'm not willing to give them another chance.

I use three Simmons scopes and have had no problem with them. Simmons also has a promotion going that they will send you back 25% of money spent this year on any Simmons scope. You can download a form at their web site.

The simmons name scares a lot of people, i have had some that were junk and some that are good. At the moment i have three of the midway simmons whitetail classics,(6.5-20x50wa) ones still in the box, the other two are mounted on two long range rifles, a savage 12bvss in .308 and a savage/krieger in .260 remington.

Both of those rifles shoot very good groups with those scopes at whatever distance they are aimed at. Both of the rifles are zeroed at 200yd, the .308 best group there is 6 shots at 1.029x.789. The best for the .260 is three out of five shots in one hole at 200yds, both from an open rest. Some of the other simmons i've had, ... not so good. blue

I only own one simmons which is the 22 mag which is on my 10/22 and have been real impressed with it. Have been able to make consistent head shots on prarie dogs from 20-70 yards which in my book is pretty good shooting for a 22LR. Only paid bout 50 bucks for it cant say I dont like it.

I have a Simmons 8 Point 3x9x40 that came as a package deal on my Winchester .270 and its been on there for almost 7 years without a problem. It came boresighted from the factory so I took it out and shot it before deer season the year i bought it to make sure it was good to go. Havent had to change anything since then. I also have a Prohunter 3x9x40 on my .17hmr Its not the new master series ones they have out but an older version and it has worked flawlessly for about 4 years now. Never had to resight it either.

I suppose there has been good and bad Simmons through the years. I have the WTC 6.5 x 20 x 50 and haven't had any problems mounted to my AR.

I also have the WTC and so far am very pleased, even more so considering the low price. Also have a Simmons 2-7 pistol scope on a Contender .223 and I like it. I'll probably swap it for more magnification soon.

Both of the Simmons that I had seemed to be ok on low power, but at Higher Magnification, the clarity went down hill. But for a Rimfire, it may be Ok. Good luck.

In my experience, sighting in dozens of rifles with all brands of scopes for friends & neighbors, still in the box is the best place for a simmmons.

Have you looked into the mueller line of scopes? they are a decent scope for the money and the CS is great.

Just an old paper puncher..and sometimes PD shooter I have five(5) Simmons WTC 6.5X20 and just bought number six[6]-a Mil-Dot. Are there better scopes- absolutely, does the WTC represent good value to ME - Yes.

My six(6) WTC would not make a down payment on a NightForce or maybe even a high end Leupold however they have been trouble free for me..and even have a NightForce shooting friend who really likes the one I have on my CZ452 .17HMR - wait, maybe it's the rifle...he kills PDs at >200 with it.

if anyone has a simmons v-tac for sale ....
4.5 X 14
I would be very interested in buying it or trading for it...

I've had various Simmons for years and never had a problem
at all with any of them. And I'm known for being rough on
scopes and rifles.

Ive had a 44 mag for about 5 years now and have been pleased with it. They were bought by bushnell a couple years back fwiw.
