Anvil coming out of primer during decapping

I just started reloading for a 25-06. I made up 15 shells using CCI-200 primers and H4831SC with 48,49,50 grains which is still below the max of 52 grains listed in the bottle. I don't see any signs of excessive pressure on the case and no cratering but when I de-cappped them about half of the anvils fell out. None fell out in the gun, just while de-capping. Is this a sign of to much pressure? I haven't had this problem using these same primers in my 22-250.

Thanks

I have had quite a few primers over the years that come apart when knocking the primers out with the decapping pin.

Since you are forcing the primers out with the decapping pin that may be what is causing the primers to come apart.

Some decapping pins have sharp flat ends and tend to hang in the anvil when you're pushing out the fired primer. To stop the anvils from hanging on the decap pin polish and radius the pin tip and it won't wedge in the anvil as bad and the anvils should stay in the spent primer. It's not a pressure sign.

It is normal - I have had thousands of primers come apart during decapping.

It has nothing to do with the shape of the decapping pin.

It hurts nothing, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

They are obviously defective primers. I would ship all to Catshooter and he will dispose of them properly...one at a time.

No not really its normal as all said... which reminds me I need to vacuum the carpet in the reloading room as I have a few spent ones that popped out of the RCBS plastic so-called primer catcher.

You made me laugh...

Are you old enough to remember when the RCBS primer catcher was made out of solid cast aluminum?

I do... my Rugrat tells everybody that I am 917 years old

I've had this press since forever.

(P.S... it doesn't catch primers any better than the plastic one - but it's cooler than he!!

And for primer problems... how about this - the damm anvil wasn't even in the box

No I admit I have not seen that aluminum one and it is sharp looking... but you are 317 years older than me. I CAN remember when the Dead Sea was just sickly though.

I have that catcher on my press. No spring though, I use one of my wife's hair ties to hold it in place

I just wish they had designed it so spent primers wouldnt fall down the groove and jam the arm. Even though it's easy to clear, still a pain in the butt.

Yes, I still use the aluminum primer catcher on my RCBS press when and if I ever use the press any more. I keep it mounted up for pulling bullets. I solved the problem of primers getting stuck around the priming arm, I stuff cotton balls in the space around the priming arm, and for keeping primers from bouncing out of the tray I tape part of a 3X5 card on the front. this all helps to keep the used primers out of the Shag carpet.

I like the system on my Forster Press.

As others have said it is normal for the anvil to pop out of the primer cup when you de-prime.
