Any .243 Ackley Shooters?

Purchase a .243 AI and was looking for some load information. I have quite a few 75 grain Hornady HP and a fairly good supply of IMR 4064. Would be using Remington 9-1/2 or CCI 200 primers. Rifle has a 24" barrel and 1-10 twist. Primary goal would be varmints from 100 - 400 yards. Possibly banging some steel a little farther.

Thanks, REV

I dont have any experience with 243ai but I am sure someone will chime in. I have however used 4064 in various cartridges for years. I have always found it to be a great powder. It has always showed me excellent results from 22-250 to 30-06. My best results have been with long barrels and heavy for caliber bullets. Very low and consistent ES/SD numbers.
Good Luck

Nick

Start at 42.5g and go up in powder charge, either primer will work well. Get some win 760 ASAP, and send me private message when you do.

I use start load for the parent case and I chronograph those load. Hodgdon has start load for the 243 using 75gr Hornady HP 37.5gr/IMR_4064 @3094fps and Max 41.2gr @ 3431fps

Somewhere between start and max load you should see increase in velocity. My 243AI with 1/10 twist by the time I got to max load I gained over 100fps.

No question I could of jump to max load found same thing but I didn't.

I use H4350 in my 243 ackley. 1-8 twist shooting 105gr bullets. No info for your powder sorry. I started using 6mm Remington load data and work from there.

I formed Remington Brass, CCI250 primer, 1-12 twist, 28" length Hart ss barrel, 70g Nosler, 48.0-48.5g Win 760 was 3800-3850 respectably. Now, jump the powder charge to it max of 50.0g with a Win mag primer, 4020 fps safe working max load in my rifle at 75* temps only.

Lots of variablles for your rifle, so work up your loads slowly. Start off at the max load for the parent case, not a minimum or some other retarded kind of BS.

Shooting partners and I have had at least a dozen in this configuration, and our reamers have Zero freebore. We shot the 70g Noslers and 70g TNT's with sub 1/4 inch groups, using Remington 700's, non trued, McMillen benchrest stocks or the Hunter benchrest stocks, high powered scopes.

Our fire forming load is 37.5g of Win 760 with the 70's at 3750 fps. CCI250's dropped the standard deviation down to single digits with win 760.

IN 8 twist barrels, pressures sky rocket quickly, so a guy with an 8 twist will not get anywhere near these loads, unless he has .130 freebore(won't be able to touch the lands).

Remember, be safe, watch your pressure signs, don't let your ammo cook in the sun.

I use Varget 42.5grs for fireform loads in my .243AI. It's the only thing I use Varget for. Once cases are fireformed, my gun shows an affinity for a stout load of R-17 behind a 70NBT. It'll put 3 shots in the low .3's if I do my part. Most Ackley chambered guns need to be pushed fairly hard to get the best accuracy out of em. I have 4 AI chambered rifles and they all shoot better with max to very near max loads.
