I KNOW! I tried my best to steer him away from this model
of Taurus as I had inside info from a gunshop owner, that
sells them. I pulled the dealer aside, and he whispered if it
were him he would look at other pistols. I passed this on to
the friend, with other info that I had, and my STRONG
recommendation to NOT buy this pistol, and he bought one
anyway. What's a guy to do!
A few months later
he brings the pistol to me locked up solid, as in short of
cutting off the slide, I have no idea how they cleared the
pistol. I will say this for Taurus. They fixed it quickly,
and it did have the same serial number. But they refused
to tell the owner what they fixed, or how they fixed it.
The pistol owner was shooting plated bullet handloads, but
this guy is EXTREMELY anal retentive, so I doubt the ammo
had anything to do with it. I think the guide rod snapped,
and wedged the barrel under the slide. So now he owns a
pistol he doesn't trust, and I have to bite my tongue to not
say, "I told you not to buy that pistol". When it happened
he said, "I know you told me not to buy this". I just
smiled and said, "Now you get to test Taurus Customer Service".
Taurus Customer Service is stellar.
