Any commercial benchrest/sight-vice suggestions?

Anyone have any preferences/suggestions for any of the commercial bench rests or sight-in/target gun vices that are on the market? I would like to see how my guns really shoot on a "super accurate" rest with as little human involvment as possible. I'd also like to do this without breaking the bank. Thx for your opinions.

During the deer season , our local range has a guy that brings his in. For a few $$$'s he will site in your rifle. You may try a few of the ranges in your area to see what they may have. Good luck.

I use a Caldwell Lead Sledd...and anchor the rifle to the cradle.. If you watch, you can find them on sale once in a while. I like it as the only thing I ultimately touch is the trigger after getting it on target.

If you are handy with recycling items, and have the time, a similar item can be built pretty easily with an old scissor jack, some shot bags, etc..

One point that is overlooked is to set your front rest close to the trigger guard, rather than the muzzle end to keep from putting undue pressure against the barrel.

Like OldTurtle I would recommend the Caldwell Lead sled for a good sighting in device. I am simply to cheap to buy one so I made my own. A few pieces of scrap steel and an old car jack makes a quite handy one. I can shoot my 8mm Rem mag all day off of this.

OldTurtle,

Thx I'll check into one of those heard good things about them. Also looking at titegroup.com's the beast.

IDBob,

Nice rest - looks awsome, but, By the time I built one of those that was functional...they'd be using star trek ammunition instead of bullets. I wish I could do 1/10 of the things that some of you guys do ie. build, modify, adapt, etc. But It was just not meant to be.

I use the lead sled as well and really like it. Plus it acts a little cleaning bench.

Idbob I like yours very good idea!!!!

Here is a pic of the Benchmaster. I really like this setup for the money and it has sighted in MANY combos:

Here is a pic of the Lead Sled. Finally got one this past spring and really like this unit as this thing takes the "kick" out and it is easy to use wjth an AR:
