any dogs in southwest WY?

Yep it feels as if good old WY has simply got to popular for its own good. It was slow out there early this year and after the contest it got slower. It does not seem worth the drive any more for me. I might make 1 more trip this year, but not likely. Driving 100s of miles to not have any better succes than what I might have in 3 days at home is not worth it. I would rather try working closer to home and hope to help out my deer herds a bit.

Think I will stick closer to home and just hunt a little harder. Especially since ever where in WY I went earlier had other people tracks on it already. I can see that home and save the gas money for more toys.

Seriously though it seems like a lot of Utahns seem to think the grass in greener on the other side of the border... and as you found out recently, it isn't. Our part of the world gets hit hard too. There's plenty of nice public land in Utah, I used to live there. With as many Utah plates as I see out hunting sometimes I wonder if there are any Utahans actually hunting in Utah...

I usually don't hunt Wyoming, but I am going to start to hunt there a whole lot more.

Yes the USA is a free country! oh by the way you guys from Wyoming are welcome to hunt, fish, trap in Utah as long as you obey the law. Welcome!

You can also use our airport and hospitals any time you need to, no permission needed.

Now before you tell me you don't use our airports and hospitals, I know a lot of people from the great state of Wyoming who do just that.

I'll see you Wyoming Boys next weekend. Don't worry I will obey all the laws and I will even pick up a little trash, and I will spend a couple of hundred dollars on gas, food, and a hotel room, just to try to help out your economy. No thanks necessary.

I have to admit that the coyote hunting in my areas in SW wyoming has definately been tough! I have had success but its been a tough road! There are quite a few areas that have had quite a bit of hunting pressure! Oh well, I just have to drive farther and hunt harder.
 
dah! and all this time i just thought i had a bad set up, bad winds, wrong moon, and the coyotes were just not playing nicely with others.
i never thought about blaming someone else.
now i have a new excuse for spending a great day of good hunting but bad killing. oops harvesting.
a bad day hunting beats the best day working in my book.
i like it when i hunt a string find others tracks where they were calling and i call in a coyote then catch up with them that afternoon and find out they hadn't seen a thing.
i love calling and so do others if they called yesterday i can still call and have seccess cuz everyone does it different the coyote may not have been interested then but might be now.

Spending a couple miserable years in Utah hardly makes me a Utard! I've lived in Wyoming long enough and paid my dues, so I'm more than comfortable calling myself a "Wyomingite". What makes Utahns Utards is the attitude --- You displayed it well on your post. Do you even realize how poorly Utahns are perceived by people in their neighboring states? Probably not...

Come on over if you really feel the need... Just remember 'I told you so' when your two tanks of gas and a hotel room don't net you any more yotes than you would have seen at home in Utah. Try to behave yourself so you don't give Utahns a worse name than they already have. Remember that it's not only about obeying the law, but behaving yourself in a courteous and respectful manner.

Southwest Wyoming coyotes have a mange issue right now. My partner killed 4 yesterday and two were manged up. I'm sure some that have mange are dyeing by now. A trapper told me that the numbers are as low as they've been in decades. Were still killing coyotes almost every weekend. Hike farther, call longer, and if the stand looks to good to be true this time of year it probably is. There are still plenty of coyotes to be killed. Just have to quit whining about all the contests and go kill em. All the energy spent whining about things that you can't control causes bad karma, and a warped reality of how things really are.
 
I was thinking if you didn't see much, it could have just been the wrong day. It seems one out of three days they are hard to find. Some days they won't answer to anything.
Also, the state has added a good number of coyote control guys. It is possible that a few of them know what they are doing, some don't.
