Any Fellow .17 Rimfire Hunters Here?

Took my 17 HMR CZ American to Montana for a Pdog hunt. Only shot about 35 rounds but the rabbits around an old ranch house , barn and corral took a beating from it. Put down a few Pdogs at the 100 -125 yard mark. Great little round. , fun to shoot.

Really like the 17hmr, but hadn't hunted yet with it. The kids like it as well. Going to get it threaded so I can use my new suppressor for it and really make it worth my while.

My good friend shoots prairie dogs out of his back porch with his and absolutely loves it.

I am a fan of the CZ455 in 17hmr purchased for prairie dogs in annual visit to Colorado. Deadly from 35 to 150ish yds, shot a few that were approaching 200, allowing for wind and elevation. Turtles, rabbits, armadillos and squirrels don't have a chance. And for some naysayers, they will put down hogs when you do your part! Yeah, I like em.(y)

I’ve got a Marlin 917 fluted stainless that I picked up used years ago. It was priced right and looked pretty cool so I grabbed it. Moment of weakness you might say? Lol.

It’s fun to shoot and accurate. I’ve killed a few critters with it but I find it better suited to plinking and target shooting personally. It does a number on a crow with the TNT 17 gr loads. Was effective on a couple foxes. It worked on a couple opportunistic coyotes and at least one woodchuck that I remember.

For me it’s more than I want in a squirrel rimfire, but not quite enough for much else that I want to target. Well not so much that it isn’t enough… It kills. I just have other critter specific firearms that I feel are better suited for the task of consistently putting an animal down cleanly.

I shoot a couple thousand prairie dogs each season, and prefer the rimfire rifles. I am currently using a Ruger 10/22, Bergara 22 Mag, Volquartsen 17 wsm, and Bear Creek Arsenal 17 HMR. I will admit I like the BCA 17 HMR because of the range it provides. The price of the ammo isn't too bad by todays standards. The 17 WSM is also a great gun for prairie dogs, but the ammo is difficult to find right now. I also use a suppressor and good scopes on all guns. the more magnification the better. If you can't see them, you can't shoot 'em. One other item I use is a portable shooting bench.
I bought this swivel shooting bench at Cabela’s about ten years ago. Since then I’ve modified it several times, You can see I added tires and a handle to pull it around. Put a lighter colored cover on it to eliminate the heat produced by the black vinyl cover. I also mounted an extension to accommodate longer guns. It’s lightweight and pulls quite easily. Recently, I used it in a large prairie dog town, and pulled it about one and one half miles. By the way, I’m 73 years old. One suggestion, use tires that don’t have tubes in them(foam filled). Cactus can ruin a good hunt. Hope this helps. By the way, check this out if you have time Letters From Laser

My 17 HMR was used to terrorize PA grey squirrels for a long time. No matter how old you get, there is nothing like a good fall day drilling squirrels

Unfortunately, my 17HMR only gets to see targets at a static range. But I bought it for the kids to get acclimated with to start them in bolt action shooting, but they don't go to the range that often with me anymore.

I just got it threaded, and intend to suppress it but will be used to shoot squirrels and other vermin at the deer lease, or when I get to go shoot prairie dogs with it. Either way, it's a fun little shooter. The scope on it is good for now, since it only gets used for 100 yards or less type of shooting.

It's a Marlin XT17, and I am hoping to find a wooden stock for it eventually to doll up and swap out for the tupperware one that Remington made for it.

I went to visit the store where I ordered my Savage A17 Sporter .17 WSM two years ago. Ol' Larry has only one jobber he orders from and nothing has shown up so I asked him to check with some other jobbers, and he is.

I have seen two hunting seasons pass without the rifle. Our season opens August 31 and I have held high hopes the rifle will arrive. Meanwhile, my BMAG .17 WSM will have to fill the gap again. Picture of the fabled Savage A17.

One of my Iowa legal limit of six squirrels. thanks to my Savage BMAG .17 WSM.

Here's one in the flesh, had it several months now. I got it from Hinterland Outfitters, I was on their list for when they had them, still get messages every now and then when they have them in stock.
