Any good Prairie Dog Towns left in South Dakota?

Was out in western SD last weekend looking around Buffalo Gap for the huge dog towns that had been there just a few years ago. Much to my surprise, all were gone. Called the FS and they said they had all been "decimated" by plague over the past couple years.

My friend wants to take his 14 year old son out this summer to do some hunting. Anyone have a recommendation of where in the state we could go that he would have a good experience? They can't afford the $250-500 a day the big "guide" outfits charge. I was hoping to find some public or private land for them.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Unfortunately the plague has hit a good portion of SD, if you aren't wanting to pay guide fees I would honestly start looking west further. WY or MT, I'm not saying there aren't dogs left but the shooting has been sub-par the last couple years and isn't getting any better. I've heard the Faith area still has some good numbers but I've never been up that direction and don't have much insight there. Good Luck!

East of Faith have been hit pretty hard by the plague. I would say about two thirds of our shooting has disappeared.

The Cheyenne River Indian Reservation quit selling licenses last year. This year they started a season starting June 7th because of reduced numbers.

I wish I had the time to try Montana.

FWIW, 'decimated' means 1 in 10 are gone. Not bad and not what he meant. Sometimes knowing what words means just hurts
