Any Maytag Repairmen ?

Recently water started coming out from under our clothes washer. Then it had what looked like black oil in the water that came out from under the washer. Then one day we smelled burning v-belts and the tub wasn't emptying. I replaced one belt that seemed real loose. The motor is on a spring loaded slider that keeps tension on the belts. The new belt slipped so I added another, stronger spring. It seems to work, but there is a big "thing" with a counter-balance weight on it that rotates with the tub. That "thing" seems to be slinging oil around on the inside of the cabinet. Any handymen with clues or ideas that can give me ideas on how to fix this? Thanks!
 
Time for a new washer. That big metal thing with a counter balance is your transmission. If that is leaking oil and such and the tub is leaking water somewhere then economicly it is probably not worth fixing.

A plus side to the story. My washer took a crap while elk hunting. The wife bought a new one. I looked at it when I got home. As far as I could tell, the only thing wrong with it is the belt broke. I replaced the belt and it seems to work fine although I haven't hooked it up to water for a full function test. I just plugged it in and watched the drum turn. It's your's free if you can pick it up. Not sure if you were planning on coming to Vegas any time soon.
 
My best friend and calling partner is an appliance repair expert (does Maytags) but he is in Alaska for the holidays and won't be back until Jan 4th. You probably can't wait until then.

the trans is going south on you-- junk it and get a new one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif belts that get loose by them self is one of the signs also the water/oil leak.

A goner? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I thought Maytags were supposed to last forever? The dryer died a couple of months ago and I know it can't be fixed. The drum flops around in the cabinet. The dishwasher doesn't dispense detergent and the refrigerator screeches. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif All of these modern convenience can be a pain in the neck. Oh well, I guess it's better than not having them at all. Crapshoot, if you can hold on to it for a bit, I'd like to take you up on your offer. Weas- one year on my way to Sturgis I was about 100 miles north of I90 on some God forsaken back road and I saw an old oven sitting not far off the road- door was open, sign next to it read- WIDE OPEN RANGE!!
 
agreed about the dryer and DW, a dryer could be saved for ever if caought soon enough and Maytags are very easy to fix, the DW just depends on how old it is but could be fixed easy enough also. oh ya the washer is junk, the transmission seals are out and with the motor on the slide it may be old enough that it is not worth it. Sorry
