Any new models of 17 WSM out there? Performance???

Accuracy with my Bmag hasn't been bad either....it's not 1/2 MOA gun but then again the CZ 455 American I have isn't either regardless of .22 or .17 HMR. I really think a lot of the accuracy is limited by the ammunition in rimfires

I've had my B mag for quite awhile, I bought one when they first came out. The stock is cheap and I don't care for the magazine tab design but the rifle isn't bad especially when you consider the price point. I didn't have to put another $60 in parts to get a decent trigger with it like I did the CZ either

Just picked up my Volquartsen. Hopefully get to shoot it this weekend. It is a wonder to behold - heavy! We'll see how she shoots. My FFL ordered three of these eons ago and they are just now showing up

I've had a bit of work done to my HB SS Bmag but it now shoots 1/2 or better. I weight sort all my WSM ammo and put them in to like weight groups. On a digital scale you can go through 500rnds pretty fast. I've taken a few or the lightest and heaviest rounds apart and weighed the components separately. The powder charge on all of them was spot on as were the bullets. The cases had a small amount of variance but it wasn't much at all. The majority of the weight variance came from the amount of priming compound used. I'm not exactly sure how much that stuff changes the FPS but it is certainly one area they need to put more effort in to the consistency of how much each case gets because from lightest to heaviest, of the rounds I pulled apart, there was nearly a grain difference in just the amount of priming compound used.

I've chronographed mine with weight sorted ammo and the ES was only 25fps and a SD of 15fps. I've seen others that had nearly 100fps ES. I think weight sorting the ammo helps eliminate the flyers.

I pulled the bullet, holy cow these things have a death crimp on them, dump the powder into a scale pan then very gently scraped the primer compound out of the case and dump it into a scale pan then get weights on all the seperated components. I'm assuming it's paste like when it goes in. After I scape all of it out I weigh the empty case then clean the inside of the case and weigh it again. This tells me if I got it all out. I'm not exactly sure how they get the priming compound in the case or how important this is but in some of the rounds I've pulled apart it's not all down in the bottom of the case but is sometimes smeared up the sides of the case as well. What affect this extra primer material has on fps or anything else, I don't know but I'd imagine it's no different than going to a hotter primer.

If anyone has any thoughts on this I'd be happy to hear them. I think the 17 WSM has a lot of potential especially for extended range shots on small critters but it would sure be nice if the QC was better when they load these things at the factory.
