Any one ever "Customized" a Marlin lever gun?

I wouldn't use one as a supstitute for brass knuckles but they are strong enough for thier intended use. That mare's leg was more for fun than anything else as it has very little practical value. might be fun with an actual buttstock as a SBR though.

If you ever want to have some real fun with a marlin get one thats been rechambered to 450 or 50 AK. I have shot a 16" barreled 50 AK quite a few times running 525gr WFNGC @ 1800+ fps. that kind of stomp out of such a short, light package will really get your attention. Makes for a great rifle to carry while filling up bear bait locations though.

My 444 has the regular size lever and I only kill 1 or 2 deer a year with it. I shoot about 20-30 rounds through the gun in the off season and I never have had sore knuckles from the lever. A buddy loaned me his 450 Marlin one summer and it was a little more kick but nothing to cry about. If I could only have one rifle it would be a Big Bore Marlin Lever.----Riflemann

It looks cool...

Mostly it's style, but it's also a little better than the standard loops for comfort. It fits thick insulated gloves better, it's a little more comfortable against your knuckles when you're running one fast, and gives a lot more room if you'd ever feel the need to "John Wayne" it (spin your levergun to cycle it, not sure why people call it "john wayne" though, I don't recall the duke spinning his rifle). Ultimately, it mostly just looks cool. The disadvantage is that it takes more than a finger flick to open it with a big loop, since the loop is that much deeper.

Watch True Grit and you'll see the only instance I can remember him spinning it. It's just cause he's double fisting it with the lever in one hand, pistol in the other and horse reins in his mouth.
