i just bought my first coyote call it is a Primos cottontail distress and i was wondering if anyone else uses this call and how much sucess you have had with it

I have the Primo's Katnip Call,Primo's Lil Dog combo Coyote Howler/Barker...after that all my others are Knight & Hale or Lohman....just because they were priced right or were easy to use!

Most Cottontail Distress calls work well, sometimes its the amount of Coyotes in your area or the colder weather that draws them in to the call, sometimes its just luck and other times its a good sounding call!

I have had good luck with my Lohman Circe JackRabbit call and we have No JackRabbits here in SEMO that I know of?I also have done well with my Fawn in Distress Caller --->(brand name wore off?)and my Primo's Mouse Squeaker. (forgot about the squeaker)!

Another thing is too listen to the Instruction DVD if your call came with one.....and try to sound like it and practice a lot to get better!

The main reason I chose the call is because it was the only one i could find that looked easy to use here in the panhandle we hav both cottontails and jacks. have you had any prblems with the calls freezing up this ismy first try at calling and the cold temps right now are messing with mine

Closed reed call I presume. Blow through the other end to get some of the moisture out. Piece of flannel over the reed end may help moisture getting in and locking the reed up.

yes it is closed reed i got working again i just want to keep it from happening it was my fist hunt and i blow it cause the call froze up

I have primos open & closed reed calls & use them in conjunction w/my foxpro. They are like any other OTC call & got them when they were on sale.

I've been around the block with most Factory produced calls out there, and I'd say if you're only going to have one call, that's the one to have (I'm a collector of sorts, have over 70 factory calls).

The Primos Randy Anderson Double Cottontail (Orange Laminate wood mouthpiece, plastic bell) is my favorite "Factory" closed reed call out there. None of the factory calls really hold up against custom calls, since there just isn't the time in tuning put into them. I almost exclusively used the Double Cottontail from 2000ish through 2010 when I branched into custom calls.

Pretty much all closed reed calls use the same guts (predominately JC reeds), but how well the body design and material gets the sound out of a call is what stands them apart.

Any closed reed call will be vulnerable to freezing up. I can't think of the last time it's happened to me, but it does happen (one of the luxuries of living in KS where our temps aren't usually quite so low). Blow backwards through it, or stick it in your pocket to thaw out. I usually have the habit of blowing backwards through my calls a shot or two after each series when it's super-cold out.

All in all, I'm a big fan of the Primos Double Cottontail call. By and large, most of their Factory calls are pretty good, very servicable as hunting calls.

I was just out there in your panhandle area coyote hunting and couldn't find a store that sold calls... at least not many to choose from. A friend said that most guys around there used a Tally Ho. He gave me one of his Crit-R Distress Calls... which sounds really well.

Don't see how you can go wrong using a Primos call.... good buy.

you cant really go wrong with calls in my area were overrun with yote lots of us kids hunt em but we all use differrents sounds . Ive tried the call and its the most realistic call ive heard as far as places to buy calls most farm and ranch stores offer them

i'm new to the sport and i've called in a couple dogs with a closed reed primos jack rabbit distress call. and as mentioned it freezed up if its cold at all, so frustrating!

whitail hunter how long hav you ben callin i didnt buy my call till yesterday an i practiced and had it figured out(or so i thought) i went down to the edge of my property where there some wheat fields let out a few series waited went to call again and my call wouldnt work needless to say i was more than a little mad I know how you feel but it gets me outdoors so might as well try again tomarrow
