Just curious what brand of hulls you guys prefer to reload. I'm fairly new to reloading shotshells and have only dealt with winchester AAs and AA super sports (i really like the super sports). I'm curious what other people that shoot alot of trap prefer for hulls and powder. I'm shooting Red Dot but haven't tryed anything else. My 11 yo son shoots 20 gauge AAs with Green Dot.

Thanks,

I have loaded AA's with success but I now reload sts' s. I use cheap alliant promo powder with cheddite primers. Trap shooting is just as addicting as calling coyotes!

I have both the older AA's and the Remington STS. I think today if i started out I'd go for the STS, they seem to make nice crimps and last a long time for shooting. Trick is to set up for what ever hulls you have the most of. I have thousands and thousands of AA hulls both in red and silver. I set up my Mec 9000 hydrolic up for the AA's but the STS reload in them just as well. Don't like the new AA's as they are a 3 piece hull and have to adjust the reloader for them a little differently, so i don't reload the new AA's. I've been shooting since the early 70's and love the sport, used to shoot between 11 and 14 thousand a year, but now if i do 3000 i'm lucky.
Hope you continue to enjoy it, as i know i've met some very nice people around the country.
Best Wishes,

When I was shooting a lot of trap and skeet, I loaded AAs, because I could get them cheap...the STS will outlast the new AAs...if you can find the old AAs...they are the best...but getting very scarce

I saw the title and thought great, now I have to worry about people shooting my traps. Got to get some sleep

I do shoot trap, and do hand load. Actually I hand load
10 ga., 12 ga.(2.75", 3", and 3.5"), 20 ga.(2.75" and 3"),
and 28 ga. For 12 ga. trap loads, I load old AA(like stated
getting scarce), the new AA-HS, and Rem STS. They all
seem to load well for me. I give the STS hulls a slight nod
as best. I do agree they seem to last for a few more loads
than the AAs. Not the case in the 28 ga., though. The new
AA-HS hulls are lasting much longer than the STS hulls.
For whatever reason the newer 28 ga. STS hulls I have been
shooting seem to want to burn quickly around the crimp.
I have been shooting Hodgdon Universal Clays for years,
so it isn't the powder. But in 12 ga., for me, there isn't
a lot of difference.

Nitro 27s and AA. I was shooting 1oz of #8 from the 16 and 24yd lines. You don't need a bucket of shot to break birds in trap. I retired AA and 1oz loads were plenty. I chrongraphed them right to the limit and shot 300 to 500 rounds a week. You sure don't want hammered with heavy stuff at that rate. Unless you want a flinch. The Nitro hulls were by far the longest lived with the AA a close second. I'd keep no less than 1,000 Nitro hulls ahead and at least 500 of the AAs. e-bay used to be a good place to pick up once fired stuff from ranges.
