Anybody have a compensator on their 22-250

I was thinking real hard about buying a 22-250 for shooting prairie dogs but don't care much for the recoil. Does anybody have a compensator on their pd gun(22-250). Make and model with some pics would be great.

I have shot a 22-250 with compensator and the muzzle blast was worse than the felt recoil so I removed it and shot it without the comp. I was sighting it in for a friend and I put it back on then verifyed that it still shot the same and took it to him. Later when hunting with him I noticed he had removed it as well.Just food for thought.

My concern was losing the sight picture and not seeing the impacts. Kinda defeats the purpose of shooting dogs if you can't see them............well, you know.

I put one on my 22-250 and my 6BR just for the reasons you stated and I like it. I always shoot targets and varmints with hearing protection so the noise isn't an issue.

When I had my .220 Swift built, I had the gunsmith, George Vais, put one of his famous muzzle brakes on it while he was at it. Sure worth the extra $ just to be able to see those praire dogs turn inside out. OR (sigh!), to see where you miss your target and make it easier to correct for the next shot. I don't need one on my .17 Remington or my .204, but anything bigger I do believe that there is a place for a good brake. I'm sure happy with mine!

A CO PD shooter let a couple of us FL boys try his braked HB 22-250 this Spring in WY...GREAT! Don't have the experience to comment on any recoil reduction but the view on targets was perfect.

I'm just an old trigger puller and will probably live comfortably with .204 and .223 on colony varmints however would have a good brake installed if I planned on more than an occasional shot with a boomer..having a spotter see your hits just isn't the same, IMHO.

I do! I had my smith put one on a Winchester Hvy Varmint when I rebarreled it with a Lilja. I had it put on just to see the impacts, recoil was already light enough. Just like everyone said though, it sure makes them LOUD.

All my guns except for one 17 is heavy barrel ( 220 swift, 22-250, 223 ), so 95% of the time I can see my hits or misses. I am not a fan of the muzzle brakes because it make it at least twice a loud!

I've never put one on a small caliber but I did put some rounds through a friends 700 22-250. toned it down to below 17rem recoil. noise was still horrible to say the least

+1

If the muzzle blast bother's you, then wear ear plugs and a set of Peltor electronic ear muffs...end of muzzle blast bothering you...no kidding!

It is real nice to see your exact bullet impact, you know how much low, left or right you have to compensate to get the point of impact that you want.

Otherwise, you are shooting in the blind. We tried the process of one guy spotting for the other, but it did not work worth a hoot, because people are looking at one p. dog when your scope is on another one, many people blink at the shot, and some people just can't get it through their thick skull to report to the shooter how many inches low and to the left and right you were...maddening!

Get a muzzle break and never look back.

Also, one muzzle break can be used for multiple guns as long as you have the barrels threaded for the break.

I use one style muzzle break for all my 22 caliber and 6mm caliber bores...just switch them back and forth.
