Anybody have a load for IMR-4064 in.223?

When I was a youngster, 4831 was sold in gunshops at $0.75 per pound. Bring your own container. I used it for everything I owned at the time. .243, 6,5X55 and .308. The first powder other than 4831 I bought was when I picked up a .222 and got a can of BLC. I was amazed at the way it flowed through my powder measure and started looking for better powders for my other rifles.
Now days I have a bunch of different powders including Varget. Varget works great in the 6BR and .243 AI (with light bullets.) My .223 gets H322 or 8208. When I use 4831 in my bigger rifles, it's 4931 short cut.
Nothing wrong with having a bunch of powders around. Nothing wrong with having a bunch of different rifles around. A kid has to have more than one toy in the toy box.

With plenty of IMR4064 on hand I decided to give it a spin in the 223. Sort of a pain funneling it into the cases but it worked well and was accurate. The load uses win brass, 25.5gr imr4064 and Sierra gk 55gr hpbt lit off by a rem 7 1/2 primer.
Must mention my fav powder for the 223 is ramshot tac. The stuff flows like sugar.

Your velocity will be very slow, but it is nice to use up existing powder. If you get a chance, clock the load for speed. About 25.0g is what you use for a 69g bullet.

The 25.5gr of imr 4064 pretty much fills up the case, I just used a powder funnel with a 4" extension tube on the bottom that goes into the top of the case and I just slowly let it trickle in the case while tapping on the case. I made up 48 loads with this just for the heck of it. It isn't a rocket speed load but plenty enough for me to pop most of the things I tend to shoot at.
If I remember correctly I arrived at the above load via an email to Sierra.
For my main loads I use 25.5gr of ramshot tac with a 65gr Sierra gk. I've taken several hogs with this load all dropped dead right there. Works good enough to where I don't bother using my 308 much anymore.

I won several benchrest matches useing 25.0 grns of 4064 in a 223 loaded .010 off the lands.

I see this is an old topic but I happen to be a fan of 4064. And if you like 4064 but hate the long kernels, try XMR4064 by Accurate. This powder flows sooo much better than IMR and it flat out shoots awesome in my 22-250 and 243. I'm going to try it in my 223 this weekend with some 75gr Hornadys. I throw this powder out of my Dillon 550B and it holds a variance of about .1 grains +or-.

I totally agree on the Reloder 10X as I quickly found out while loading the .20 tac that stuff is a bugger to remove from the barrel.
NOW with that being said the new AR Comp(From Alliant as well) powder is as clean burning as it gets from what I have seen so far. I have used it in the 6mmDTI and it is my powder of choice right now for the .308 Winchester.

Well, continue to be amazed then, Catshooter! I have shot many thousands of rounds of .223 ammo loaded with Varget and the 50 grain Vmax or Ballistic Tip bullet and will continue to do so. Very accurate, low pressure and have lots and lots of dead ground squirrels and prairie dogs to show for it. Sure, I could get another 100 FPS or so with a different powder perhaps but who the heck cares? Certainly the critters that I have shot do not and I just love getting those dime sized 100 yard 5 shot groups.
If you don't like it that's just jake with me. My guns love it and therefore that's all the reason for me to keep using it.
