Anybody shoot a TC Encore Pro Hunter?

If anybody owns one, I'd like to know your feelings on it and what kind of accuracy you get from it. I love the idea of the system. In looking at the predator model, you get a 28' bbl with on OAL of 42.5, 1/2 longer than a Ruger American with a 22' bbl. I really like the idea of being able to buy barrels and go from a coyote gun to a really handy carbine for a brush rifle.

I used to love everything TC. Dad and I both shot contenders in 35 rem,223, and 22lr. I have an original blued steel and wood encore 243 rifle. I put together a pro hunter for my friends son in 243 that will shoot my hand loads into one whole at 134 yards. Never even adjusted the scope. The turrent caps have never been off of that rifle in 5 years. Life was good in Tc land.

Then I listened to dad talk about getting him an encore in 308 for 2 or 3 years. So last year I told the wife that I was going spend 2k on a rifle for him and she gave me ghe usual, whatever, just don't buy junk.
Well, i bought junk. TC encore pro hunter 26in barrel because we like the compact style. 308 shoots 3 inch groups. Fireformed brass neck sized only. 2 inch groups, free float the hand guard.1 1/4 inch groups, extracts every other case, adjust extractor, 1 in 5 cases stuck in chamber, file the extractor tips, seems to work so far. He now carries a jointed cleaning rod to extract stuck cases in the field. Sort of a muzzle loader/ center fire. The love affair is over, we will send this barrel to Bellm after deer season and have the barrel machined to expose the case head or buy a new barrel. Another 150 to 400 dollars to have one that works. Still love the concept but the wuality is way down. Seems to be hit and miss according to the web.

You can do the same thing with a savage long action. Shoot anything you want with a set of headspace guages and bolt head for the case size. Accuracy should be outstanding with good barrels.

Good luck.

Got one...love it. I have a 20ga barrel, .50cal ML, and .204 barrel for it. Plenty accurate enough for me, but it's not the first rifle I grab from the safe when I'm going hunting.

Super handy for what I've needed it for...and it's the only .204 I own. Very happy with it.

Got on and I like it a lot....I have the Endeavor .50 cal muzzle loading barrel, the Pro Hunter .444 Marlin barrel and the Pro Hunter 22-250 barrel....they all shoot well. The muzzle loader and 22-250 are fun to shoot, the .444 Marlin is a bit stout to be what I'd call fun....the muzzle loader is a 1.5" at 100 rifle which is the most accurate muzzle loader I've shot yet....the 22-250 is a 1.125" at 100 which is acceptable to me for it's use but some guys won't own anything that shoots over 1" at 100....the .444 is still a work in progress...I've been struggling to get a stout enough scope mounting to do much shooting for groups. It has returned several 1.25" groups at 100 but then the POI shifts 3 or 4" and I find my scope has moved again. I think the barrel has excellent potential but I need to invest in much better rings/mounts for it I just haven't bothered since I don't really have a lot of use for the barrel at this time. If I ever get drawn for my moose tag I'll be working on it full speed ahead.

I have one with the thumb hole stock and a MGM 27 1/2 in fluted barrel in 25-06 improved. Using 90 gr Sierra 90 gr Blitz Kings and 560 powder I have hit 4 grand but with about 6 in. Vertical stringing. Had to slow it down to about 36, would have been better off with a straight 25-06. Finicky like most break opens but if consistent in lockup and hold it will shoot my current 85 Ballistic Tips with RL19 into a inch or less, but get careless and it will open a couple of inches. Have about 800 into it but probably lucky to get 500 for it. Going to put it on consignment and get a #1

I have an older Encore, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The 50 Cal ML barrel shoots around 1 1/2". The other barrels (I have 6) all shoot an inch or under. The 22-250 goes under 3/4" @200 yards. I put a Thumb hole stock on also.

I have one with a thumb hole stock. I have the .50 cal muzzleloader barrel that I have shot a whitetail at a lazered 175 yards. Dropped a 225# 10 point last Saturday. I had Bull Berry build me a 16 1/2" .22 hornet barrel that shoots 5 shot 1/2" groups. Yes they can shot!

I'm thinking on having bullberry make me one from scratch in 500 s&w with a 24" barrel. I want to see if I can get a 700gr bullet over 1600fps. JP recoil eliminator on the end, their custom wood stocks... Just sounds like so much fun

I'll have to sell my 44mag carbine to do it though and this is a repeater that is proving really accurate... Tough to let it go.

Which carbine you selling?

One of my buddies has a pro hunter. He recently bought a Bargerra 44mag barrel for it. I loaded up some 200gr XTP's with H110. It shoots really well. I shot a 3" group with it at 200yds.

I love mine. I had the encore pro hunter in the 460 s&w katahdin but have since sold the 460 barrel and got a 20" stainless 357 maximum barrel that was build for me by mike bellm. 357 max is an awesome cartridge for deer,hogs,bear,etc.. with very little recoil yet hits hard.

If it were me doing it all over again, the ONLY thing I would
get from T/C would be the receiver/action, stock from Boyd's,
and barrel from MGM. T/C quality is hit & miss. You MAY get
one of the good ones, but it you do not.....T/C CS is filled
with people who should be prison guards in some foreign prison.
