Would like to here some different loads and powders . Now I dont hold nothing gospil and please do not try my loads but around 2950- 2975 fps this thing came alive at 400 yards , will under 1" groups . Now these loads was about 4.5 - 5 grains over Max on published data stopped at a little over 51 grains was no signs of pressure by bolt lift and primers looked ok . Shooting a 142 grain bullet . Wondering if anyone is useing Reloader 17 or H SC 4831 . After bumping this thing up i was very impressed with way it's tossen copper . I was shooting H 4350 , 142 matchking .Ive heard a few say SC 4831 is the powder but i have 4 more lbs of 4350 to burn first . Anyone care to share loads PM me if you like. Again please do not use this as loading data

Jim, I have been working with a Savage M111 LRH in 6.5x284 this summer and have been very very impressed with what it is capable of. My loads consist of Ramshot Magnum powder at 58.5 grains under a 142 grain Sierra bullet and Lapua brass. The load is a half grain under book maximum and gives me 2830 to 2850 fps. Accuracy is better than I believed I was capable of. I had originally intended to try 4831sc and Reloader 17 as well but, as soon I had gotten the results I did with Ramshot, I stopped looking further.

I've got a 6.5-284 just waiting on the stock to show up, one of these days.
I am planning on shooing the 123gr. A-Max and 4831SC. At least, that is what I am going to start with.
I like hearing how please you all are with the accuracy. I hope mine will do the same.

I have two , a custom made over 5 years ago on a Rem vsl stock in a short action with a kreiger 28" 1:8 barrel. I recently purchased a Savage Long Range Hunter in a 6.5-284. I shoot 140g bullets in both using Rl-22. imr 4350, and imr 4831. The custom rifle does well with all, at 19lbs its is a bench rifle. The Savage prefers the 4831 at this time, I find the 4350 difficult to measure as it is long grain.

Ankeny,
This is a custom action and i do not suggest anyone to try it .I'm useing 28 inch Broughton barrel I was getting 3020 and yes I think it was the starting to push the limit as the load i'm working with is 49.+ now . I would be interested in the Reloader 22 data .

Jim:

I mean I can't imagine that load in any of my rifles. I know guys that push the 140 VLD a lot harder with H4831 than I am going. Heck, a good action, Lapua brass, a hard primer...you know the story. Each rifle is different.

I have quite a bit of RE22 left over from my magnumitis days. I tried it with 140 VLDs and 142 SMKs and my rifles preferred H4831SC. I went to 48 grains of RE22 without any worries, but I was doping loads in cold weather.

Have a 27" 5 groove Broughton that shoots 130 Bergers at 3120w/49+RL17. Will avg. 2970 w/50+ RL22 and 140SMK. Use Norma or Lupua brass or the old White box Win. 284.
