Anyone else having trouble with Boyd's?

Placed an order for a classic edge stock before the Christmas order deadline date. Hadn't received a shipping notice by the 22nd so I called. Finally talked to somebody and was told they didn't have the status but it should still ship. Call them if I hadn't received my shipping email by the 23rd. 23rd comes and no shipping notice so I call again. Same story, we are still shipping orders out today.

Now it's the 30th and still no shipping notice. I believe the manufacturing portion was shut down until the 28th but customer service was supposed to be open. Try to call yesterday and after being on hold get sent to voicemail. I had to leave a message pre Christmas and never got a call back. I had to make a follow up call the next day to get contact. No call back from yesterday's voicemail either. Called just now and basically go straight to voicemail.

I was nice and polite in my calls last week, but in my voicemail this morning I said the customer service was lacking. I still have no clue why my order missed the Christmas cutoff or when it even expects to ship. I also emailed a question to the sales team before I ordered to make sure I was ordering the right thing and didn't get my answer until I phoned in.

I've heard mostly positive things about Boyd's stocks and I hope it's true because the communication aspect has been an absolute failure to this point.

Has anyone else been experiencing issues?

Yes, my buddy ordered the wrong stock for a Savage 111(wrong bottom metal) and tried for 4 days to call leaving messages and had sent an email to change to order before it shipped. He got the shipping notice email Tuesday and we both got a call back Wednesday.
I have two of their stocks and like them, especially for the price. I can use his stock but it's not the color I would have ordered. They are very nice on the phone, just a little behind in returning calls and emails I guess.

I emailed them about a stock and never got my questions answered. its pretty sad that no one checks the emails or voicemails daily. I had an issue with a summit treestand and sent 5 emails and the 5th one I said I will be taking it back due to crappy customer service and the issues I had to deal with on the stand. never got a reply. I would call but work 8-4 and cant be on the phone on hold waiting for them to answer.

I recently ordered a boyd's stock for my Walmart Remmy ADL. It was around two weeks from the day I ordered that my stock came in. Never did get a shipping notice, it just showed up. A buddy at work ordered one for his axis, based primarily on my recommendation and its going on 3 weeks for him and still no shipping notice. I do like their stocks, but 10 days to 2 weeks to ship an in stock item as a little excessive in today's age. From now on I think I'll check Midway or another stocking dealer first before I order straight from Boyd's. That being said, I will order from them again if need be, because the two stocks I have look and fit great. I'll just be prepared to wait up front. Their wasn't any delay in them taking their money though, LOL.

I ordered a stock for my son's Savage as a Christmas present. The day after I ordered it a guy called because the order got screwed up. We got it straightened out and it arrived in plenty of time.
But during my call, the guy did say that the new website has some bugs and they are trying to get them worked out. Problem was that the outfit that built the new website didn't seem to be in much of a hurry to fix it.

I called last week to order another stock for an upcoming project and was told some of the problems are still there. They're working on it, but it takes time to go through that much computer code trying to find the mistake.

I bought a stock for my Savage online. It shipped immediately. However when I tried to put the stock on, the front action screw hole was a tiny bit off, causing the screw to bind before fully in. Called customer service and sent it back with no trouble. Was told they reordered my stock and it would ship as soon as mine arrived back. Two weeks after mine was signed for at the factory, I called to see where my new stock was. It had not been reordered. It had now better be waiting for me when I arrive home tomorrow from Christmas travel, or I will have to make another call.

I have ordered two stocks from Boyds, and both were listed as "In Stock", and one beat the e-mail shipping notice, and one was a tie(got the notice in the morning, about two hours before the delivery truck drove up to the door). I will say they are a bit chaotic in their order to ship process. If you have ever been to Mitchell SD, you may understand why.

Nice place, but people there don't seem to be in a hurry, or accept pressure to move faster. The staff at the Cabela's, in Mitchell, remind me of my calls to Boyds.

But with that said, I have been very happy with my stock purchases from Boyds, once I received them. I re-stocked a JC Higgins(Savage 87A), when the original "milk plastic" stock broke at the pistol grip(common fate of these early plastic stocks), with a Boyds semi-inlet walnut stock. It was unfinished, and the semi-inlet was 99% inlet, with just a bit of light sanding to complete the fit. It finished up beautifully, and I now wonder why I hadn't done this years ago. The second stock was a finished Gray Laminate stock for a Savage BMag. It dropped right in, after just a touch of in-letting around the tang safety. This was expected, from the website, and on-line chatter, about these model rifles, and Boyds stocks. It is a vast improvement over the floppy plastic factory stock.

As for doing business with Boyds again, I will, but I will also lower my expectations of a butter smooth ordering and delivery process.

Ordered a stock on nov 29 said was in stock. A week went by nothing so I called and they said they would get back with me. Another week went by nothing so I call again and they tell me that they don't know what's going on that they were going to get to the bottom of it that day and call me back. Of course nothing a few days later I call and they don't know anything and that production was shut down for Xmas. So I canceled my order

I ordered one several weeks ago. Got a shipping notice the next day and it arrived a day earlier than specified. I wasn't too thrilled with the overall quality of it. Took quite a bit of work to get the action to fit right and to clean up the outside lines. In the long run it eliminated a lot of work to build one from scratch and I'm happy with the finished product.

A primary producer of the type of laminate that they use was recently put out of business by a fire. Just speculation, but maybe they have a supply problem?

Update to my previous post. I received my "new" stock Monday. I opened up the box, and look it over. The stock I received was the very same stock I sent back to them. Looks like I waited a month for nothing.

I called customer service. I waited so long on the line that it finally went to their answering service.

Love the look and feel of the stock. Wish it fit properly. Guess I'll probably have to use my meager shop skills, and make it work. Pretty disappointed with Boyd's service.

I wouldn't stand for that, I would use a marker and mark something inside the stock that only you knew and send it back and tell them either send me the right one or I want my money back. if they don't like that than have the credit card company handle it by stopping payment. I was going to get one but they seem like a cracker jack box company so idk.

Mine is finally on the truck for delivery today. 3 weeks past the expected delivery date. Seems the computer dropped all of my options and instead of someone calling to ask what they were the order just got set aside. If I hadn't called I may still be wondering where it was.
They are nice on the phone when you can get thru but I say the communication in all levels needs to improve

Ordered one from them on the 4th and it shows out for delivery today, so that's not to bad. It's for a Remington 788 project I'm working on, we'll see out it looks and fits when I get home. I called customer service this morning to check on it and that's when I learned it scheduled for delivery today. I got right though to customer service and the lady I talked to was very nice.

Terrible...Finally got this. Love the first line.... and thought Hobby
King was bad....But wait, they are in China No laminate.....just canceling seems right to me since I was given no arrival time
Greetings,

Boyds’ would like to sincerely apologize for the lack of communication concerning the order you have placed with us.

It is not our standard practice to have a longer lead time than the 5 days or not to respond to phone calls or emails; however, due to the high volume of orders received during the holiday season, our backlog of product was larger than we could have foreseen and we have been diligently returning calls and emails. We apologize if you have not received any correspondence yet, but we want to assure you that we are working to have all orders current and shipped within the next week and a half.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding and we ask that you give us another opportunity as we greatly value you as a customer.

Wow. Can't believe all the trouble you guys are having. I have
several Boyd's stocks, only one little problem with an order in
over 10 years of doing business with them. That problem was
taken care of over the phone and to my satisfaction.

All of this was prior to the rediculous website upgrade last
year, and I imagine their 'puter system is totally tied into
it. I have been tempted to ask them if the same people who came
up with the ACA site also did their "upgrade"!

Their old website was much more navigable and easier to get the
info needed, IMO. It also seemed then that CS was much easier
to communicate with via email.

There was a time when they made a few Rem 788 stocks in the
same pattern as Rem made them but unfinished. I was lucky
enough to get one of them, and it only needed light sanding
with a small amount of carving to accept the Timney trigger I
put on it. Wish they still made that stock for people in the
original pattern. Other than that, they have all been perfect
drop-in stocks (even though I pillar bed all of them).

Hope they get their act together. They have the best stocks
for the money I can find anywhere.

Correction: I did get a Tacticool/Pro Varmint stock from them
after their "upgrade". Navigation sucked, but once getting
through the custom ordering process, everything went well and
came when it should have.

All they have to say is...."We didn't pay our electric bill"
"The roof fell in"
"Everyone is on vacation"
"No Wood"
"The owner ran off with the secretary and we have no direction"
"We have no money for Potus's Heathcare and we are sick"
"We Don't Care"
"This is the new norm.. If the customers don't like our house they can move"

Something sure is better than nothing..
WE just need some kind of a TIMELY message or smoke signal from them
