Anyone Else Hunt Small Game With An Air Gun?

I have always been enamored with air guns since a kid. I think we all probably started out this way!? I just progressed as technology has progressed and now have over $1000 in each of my air guns. If your a bad shot you'll shoot in the .5's at 50 yards with the gun better than bad the .3's! I hunt Rabbits,Crows and Nutria up to 15 pounds with it. Believe me when I say a shot behind the shoulder of a big Nutria almost pushes it over on its side! Due to the acurracy I can place my .177 10.6gr 1,050 fps pellets on a dime out to 60 yards! I usually go for head shots beyond 30 yards and the body up close. If you guys haven't thought of an airgun before I would urge you to do so. All in all if you use bigger guns to hunt with the practice acquired in shooting an air gun will just help you out that much more when you do shoulder your big game guns! Good hunting everyone and try something new Magnum PCP Airguns!

I bought a daisy powerline 1000 in .17 caliber about four years ago. In those fore years, I have shot more critters with that gun than any other gun I own. They're fast, accurate, and extremely cheap to shoot. The biggest thing I ever shot with mine was a rockchuck. I hit it in the head at about 20 yards, and it didn't even quiver. My longest kill with it was a 92 yard shot at a crow. It was an absolute pot shot considering the wind was pretty gusty that day, but it did show what those tiny little pellets can do. I think everyone should own a good pellet gun. They make you a better shooter and don't bottom out your bank account.

Did my first hunting when I was kid using a my cousin's Benjamin .177 pump air rifle on my uncles farm. Tooks lots of birds ("go clean the birds out 'o the barn!") and other stuff up to cottontails. Bunnies and pigeons had to be hit just right or they'd take a second shot.

I have so many good memories of shooting that gun that I've thought many a time about buying one just have it.

I'll tell ya that if I had to pick one gun to own it would be a .177 air gun. Here is a link to the air gun dealer I buy all my guns from. I bought the FX Tarantula in .177 with the grade 4 Turkish Walnut and toped it off witha BSA 8.5-34 of which I think is awesome for the price of $149.99 from Midway USA! Highly suggest that scope for your guns.

Couldn't agree more about air rifles. I have killed more sparrows, starlings, and gophers with my .177 since I was a kid, I cannot begin to count. I haven't killed anything larger than a rabbit, though. One winter, ther were two rabbits feeding on spilled seed under my bird feeder, about 20 yds away. I slowly opened a window, took one with a head shot, and it just tipped over. His buddy looked over as if to say, "What's the matter with you?". So....I reloaded and issued the same treatment to him. Two bunnies made wabbit stew the next day. Gotta love air rifles.....

NASA, I almost bought one of these the later version but still a good one! I got a hunter model that has a very classic stlyling and mega power 25+ ft/lbs in .177!

Air guns are great tools and fun to boot! I was using a Walther match .177 air rifle for squirrels. A little heavy at 10 pounds, but that was only around the yard. Now I found the ultimate...AirForce Talon SS in .22 caliber. This rifle will shoot inside a quarter at fifty yards and has a 28 grain pellet moving up to 900 fps. Best part is I can crank it down for shooting inside the barn...no holes in the roof.I have no doubts that this would kill a deer out to 25yards.

Do any other States besides California allow air guns for hunting?
