Anyone ever experience bullet splash from 55gr V max

Shooting them out of a .223 ? I have shot 2 or 3 in the chest that resulted in fur everywhere and a death spin and then them running off never to be seen again. These shots where all around 60yds. Maybe I pulled my shots ? Or is it possible to have this happen at such a close range?

A few years ago on a very hot day off of the hood of my truck. 100degrees + Shooting 52 gr. sx hornady I think, Hot load around 4200+ fps. Bullets were disintegrating 25 yds. out of barrel. Vaporized. Came back a day later when it was 20degrees cooler and no problems at all. Just thought I would throw this in.

I don't have an answer for you, but I too would like to know because I have the same set up.( .223, 55grain Hornady vmax).
I took a off hand running shot Saturday evening and dumped the coyote. I was fired up because it would have been my second coyote ever. I chambered another round and watched the yotes tail flicker through the scope a few times then stop. I switched the call to yote in distress and let it play for a minute. It was pretty dark so I took one more look and the yote was still there. I shut the caller off, packed up my gear, grabbed my gun and camera and started to walk over to the yote, it was gone.

I'm not sure exactly were i hit that thing, but if I had to guess I would say I knicked it's head and just knocked it out for a few minutes.
Trust me I'm not blaming the bullet, but would like to know what everyone else has experienced.

60gr V-max shot one the other night, chest on, droped, 3 minutes later got up and tried to walk off, second round put him down. shot one straight on with 77gr SMK down he went, 3 miutes later he got up and took 2 more rounds.

coyotes are tuff

I had a chest shot two weekends ago with a 120 grain 7mm-08 Fusion bullet that has been the Hammer of God on yotes on the past, but this dog did three spins and took right off, never to be found. No blood trail.

When I get in a rush, I throw my shots to the right, which is what I think happened with that yote.

Sunday, I hit a runner with a 53 BTHP, three spins, runner, no blood. That yote was hit with a Hail Mary shot, so no idea where I hit on the body.

I think, if you're not finding blood in the area, it was a non-vital hit.

I've killed many with the 22-250 55 gr. never a runner. A big hole sometimes. Had some runners with the 223 55 though

It's probably more shot placement than anything. I think were all looking for that magic bullet that drops coyotes in their track and does little fur damage. I'm going to stick with the 55 grain Vmax. Hopefuly I'll be able to give you a better analysis later this season.

I shoot a 55g v-max out of my remm r15. Don't know the exact count but somewhere around 70 dogs to this point with this gun and round. That i can think of maybe 2 or 3 have moved once hit but no further than 20-30yds. though love the round.

Back in the day I had a Remmy 700 Police Sniper 223 that really liked 40gr Nosler BTs. I had several splashes with that combination. I've never had a 55gr V-Max splash.

I just shot a coyote 2 days ago with a 55gr Z-Max dead center in his chest at 220 yards, and the bullet actually exited around his balls. The coyote spun for about 30 seconds, which made me nervous enough to put a second one behind his shoulder.
