Anyone ever Hog hunt Hawaii

Roadrunner

Got a great deal on a trip to Maui for 2 (just had to pay name transfer fees) and thought about shooting some pig one day. Anyone have guide recommendations? Would rather rent a gun than take one but if renting is not available I'll pack up my 6.8. Thanks RR

Make sure you are familiar with Hawaiian terrain. Maui may be more rounded than Oahu, but I observed some pig hunting on that island, and the terrain was straight up and down. I recall thinking that hunting would be very tough unless you grew up there and it's all you ever knew. There are switchback trails but I don't see how those would always apply while hunting.

Not being a downer, just want to make sure you know it can be STEEP.
Best of luck, and being in shape will be needed. Again my experience is from Oahu.

Let me know how it goes Roadrunner, I'm going to Kauai in Sept 2015 and have not had much luck finding a place that doesn't charge and arm and a leg. I thought about doing it on my own but I'll really have to study up on that before I go. If you do go I read that you have to sign in "declare" your firearm to the local sheriff, I was a little leery of that since it's a haven for liberals down there and it sounded like it could be a hassle. GOOD LUCK!!

Well guided hunt is out of the question.. Way too much coin to kill a pig! Not feeling real secure about taking my AR 6.8 to local sheriff for his or their approval. I could get airfare to Texas and have a lot more fun shooting many pigs.. Thanks RR
