what kind of traps are needed for nutria in small ponds and big ditches, how and where do I place them?, my friend and I figured since we frequent this area a lot for yote and deer hunting we might as well run a trap line during trapping season for coons and nutria, we have the coons covered but how do we trap the nutria?

thanks

i have no practical expierence with them so take this with a grain of salt.

nutria are pretty much big muskrats right??(or at least close)

so why not just trap them like muskrats. i would use at least 1.5 coilspring traps put in baited pocket sets.
if they have holes in banks you could always set coni's there. and most of the sets would probably double as coon sets so you would kill two birds with one stone.
take it how ya want it just my 0.02

I thought I saw a show about a guy who trapped them for the state. Apparently in LA they reek havoc on the swamp grass roots and the state paid a bounty. Just something to look into not sure its still in effect...

I grew up using 1-1/2 Long Springs on trail sets in the marshes and swamps of S.E. Texas for nutria ... and always ended up getting more than I wanted to carry. All blind sets ... no lure or bait.
