has anyone had a coat made from the yotes you have shot??? since they are cameod so well, I would imagine one could make a decent hunting coat out of one

After skinning quite a few of them i dont think i could wear a coat made of one without thinking im gettin covered in fleas or not get a reminder of the smell!

My Mother had one a loong time ago. She said it was the best, warmest coat she had ever worn. dunno bout a hunting coat, i spose what ever u wanted to use it for.

They make really neat coats but you would have to be out of your mind to wear one hunting! You and your coat would surely end up with some uninvited holes!

Blaine Eddy used to make coyote fur gauntlet style gloves
and wear while hunting, he said it made it easier for him to move and reposition his gun as need be. his arms and forearms looked like a coyote instead of some Unidentifiable Moving Object that 9 times out of 10 spooks most coyotes

but I don't see why you couldn't if you wanted to, I've thought about making a coyote cap that would drape over my shoulders kinda like a Indian head dress

But then I can see myself getting attached by a coyote from behind or worse shot

Almost hate to admit it, but, I actually kinda like the smell of coyotes? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif Not that the smell is really pleasing, just seems to be one of those smells that has good times associated with it. For sure, coyote smell doesn't bother me at all. Badgers now, those suckers STINK, blech... Red fox too, pissy smelling little buggers... And fleas, they really do bother me. I hate it when I have them jumping around inside my hat or crawling around in my beard.

Coats... One of my buddies sewed some tanned coyote fur to the outside of his Carhartt jacket. He did a REAL nice job with it and it looks awesome. He almost never wears it though. He says it is because it is TOO WARM! I can believe it though, those Carhatt's are pretty warm to start with. Blaine's gauntletts are pretty neat too. He says the same thing about them as well though - too warm.

All that said... I have been threatening to do it for years, but I think this time I'm really going to get serious about setting aside my best coyote furs this winter to have something nice made out of them. Either a coat for the Wife, or maybe a bed spread. I wouldn't mind a coat for myself, either, but doubt I'll get enough really good pelts this winter to do more than one item.

I have a night mare of wearing some fur out on the winter snow behind a fence line and someone taking a pot shot at me....that said I have some big mittens made from a beaver I trapped. They come almost to my elbows and were made by a guy that spent time in AK and used fur hats and mitts to survive. They are the beaver fur , then thinsulate ,then polar fleece....and like most fur garments...too hot unless it is very cold. If it isn't at least 10 degrees or less , they are too warm....but when it is -20 they are like little ovens for being outside. SM

That bobcat coat is CHEAP for $627 with 8 pelts.....

I think that comes to $78.00 and change for the pelts, including coat materials & labor. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I think I'll get a tad more than that this year... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm not positive, but I THINK that is $627 PLUS you provide the 8 pelts. In other words, pelts not included. Makes it probably a $4k coat...

Those prices are in line with what I have seen before for having stuff made made from my own pelts at least.

I've seen a women's red fox and a coyote coat. Both were beautiful but the red fox one is really something.

What I'm interested in is a fur comforter. Wolf bottom 1/4 outside, coyote top 3/4 outside
+
Kitty (lynx, bobcat) and Beaver on the inside
Maybe someday $$$ I'll be able to put something like that together.

Have tried wolf, coyote and beaver mits for snowmobiling and they are very warm. Even warmer if there is fur in the inside too. I might get a pair of coyote mits made this winter.

Look at the back of Mark Zepp's video and it shows him standing wearing a coat made from coyote pelts but the guy is what 7 foot tall that's a lot of coyotes to cover that man.

Tebbe has a coyote coat. Makes him took like a full blown pimp. I wouldn't mind one either but southern nevada pets are just plain ugly compared to Northern pales.
Always wanted to make a bobcat coat for my wife. Just the white spotted bellies with beaver accents.

I have never made a coat but have had a couple of mountain man hats made from coyotes. Here is a picture of one from last year. I had the first one my son got made into this type hat also.
