Anyone heard of this cartridge???

I have the urge for a super high performance long range caliber.

I would have to say that you should choose for the best BC and then decide on the platform to shoot it with. The 1000 yard guy seem to love the 6.5x284 but it is no barn burner compared to the 257 STW. Personally I would rather shoot the 7STW due to the bullets. If you are hot for a fast 257, get a weatherby, fast enough but won't break the bank like the STW will.
 
Totch when I was wanting a LR rifle I knew I wanted a 284 of some sort, I ordered a lilja 30" 1/9 #8 contour barrel, the stock came from richards microfit, Kirby hadn't yet developed a 7mm cal yet, so I went looking for a suitable action. Finaly found a LH rem 700 300 RUM, bought it for a donor, I was almost ready to ship my stuff to another guy who offered a 7mm RUM improved.
I got an email from kirby telling me about his 7mm AM the fact that its based on the 338 Lapua sold me, it is the best brass available, so I sent the parts to him for the build.
This rifle impresses me more every time I pull the trigger, my first 3 shot group at 100 yds, a fireform load measured .267" I've also shot fireform groups at 500 yds that are less than 2"
The rifle weighs 15.5 pounds but the huge exotic scope is about 3-3.5 pounds with the steel IOR rings. I bought this scope for its 105 MOA of verticle travel, optics aren't quite equal to a loopy mk4 but its as repeatable as the sunrise.

Is your rifle the extreme sporter? Do you also have a .257 allen mag? I have heard of Kirby, but I must say that you have seriously renewed my interest. How difficult is sizing and fire forming the .338 Laupa into 7mm Allen Mag?

Sorry, Just re-read your post and realized that you said that he built your 7mm from your parts, guess it does not fit one of his 3 models then. Wasn't paying close attention
 
I use a 5 step process with a bushing neck sizer, could do it in 4 but this was kirby's reccomendation, FL resize, then you can either use bullets or cereal and paperwads to fireform.
fireform loads shoot just as well as fullpower ones
