Anyone in Ohio know of a place to ship guns from private person to ffl..

IIRC, it's Section b3 of the Frequently Asked Questions in the ATF Regulation that spells out clearly that a private individual in one state can legally send a rifle to an FFL holder in another state.
UNFORTUNATELY, many gun dealers think that THEY must get a rifle from another FFL holder in another state. That is BS.
I went through this in detail with my local FFL who held the same view. To finally put that to bed, I had to take the ATF guide to my FFL and made him read the rules, at which time he recanted, and allowed rifles to be sent by non-FFL holders in other states. But, it wasn't easy changing his mind, as he had made up a story that he believed, which was the same BS you're getting in Ohio. Arrogance was the biggest problem I confronted with my FFL. In fact, I had two FFL dealers I used, and one REFUSED to accept the ATF guide rules. He staed that he didn't care what the ATF rules are, he wanted all guns to come from a distant FFL dealer..

I ceased dealing with him, and will NEVER enter his store again, for anything.
FFL dealers who do this are NOT our friends.
Stick to your guns, and don't cave in as you will be forced to pay two FFL dealers, rather than one as permitted by the ATF rules.

Irrespective of the law, if a receiving dealer wants to impose more restrictions on transfers, that's his perogative.

I have found some dealers will take a copy of a notarized bill of sale that states that I legally own the firearm and can sell it along with a copy of my D.L. It has worked and saves me paying a FFL on my end.
 
Martyn I understand how and why you might feel that way, But! I also think I know why the FFL DEALER that you are upset with feels about doing transfers from out of state without having the firearm go through another FFL holder.I am also a FFL dealer and I do some out of state firearm transfers for some of my customers.One of the things that has happened to me on more than one occasion is that I will fax or send a copy of my FFL to a person out of state that is not an FFL holder and tell them that I need there full name and address when they send me the firearm.So then i get the firearm and it come in with no name or partial name mabe no address or a po box number or even a different name than who I sent the ffl to in the first place.As FFL DEALERS we need to know exactly who the firearm came from.So now I require a copy of a persons drivers license before i will send them a copy of my FFL.That has worked well for me.
 
I wont repeat all of this internet lore but the ATF rules are clear and any dealer that does not want to go by them and requires his own made up rules does not get my business. If a gun comes in without proper info to record in his book, just refuse to transfer to the guy that had it sent to you until he gets the sender to provide a FFL, FFL number (which can be verified) or a copy of a drivers license.

In fact, these dealers who require that rifles come from an FFL are the problem, not the solution. They are helping the anti gun jerks take away our gun rights, what little we have remaining.

I would agree. The problem many have is that now all of the FFL's in my area will only do business this way. I have gone around and around with them and they won't budge. What recourse is there? I have done a great deal of gun trading/buying/selling over the internet and the extra fees can turn a decent deal into a not worth it deal. It is a consideration on any rifle I am looking at now.

I have ponied up a few times on no longer made rifles or other hard to find guns that I was looking for. There are lots of reasons why a person would buy a used rifle through the internet instead of a new one locally.

I think that's a BIG load of BS ! Why would gun shop owners side with anti gun people ? That's crazy !

Here's a question for you ..... Is there an ATF rule that requires an FFL holder to accept firearms from non FFL holders ?

I think the dealers are just trying to cover their butts because if there ever is a problem or mistake , it could cost them their license . Shouldn't a person be able to run their business the way they want to as long as they are not breaking any laws ?

Here is an idea for you ... You could apply for a FFL , then get a building , stock it with inventory . Then you would have your own FFL and run your buisness the way you want to . Be careful though , there is much more to it than most people know ! Dealing with the ATF isn't fun , neither is keeping track of inventory , or taxes .
 
+1 to what Brian M said....

Most folks who complain about how someone else runs a business don't have a clue as to how it should be ran other than what they want at the time...

In this day and age, if FFL dealers can't/don't do what they feel they need to do to protect themselves, they can quickly become extinct.

If you're gonna transact any type of sales that involves shipping the sold items, find out all the things you need to do well before you start counting the money you hope to make. Then you can set a price that won't have surprises in it for you later on...
