Anyone know where to shoot pigeons in Utah?

Dude Here

I am fairly new to the Northern Utah area and looking for anyone who may know where to go to shoot feral pigeons. Anyone (landowners, ranchers, dairy farmers, etc.) in the area of northern Utah and southern Idaho that have infestations of these, let me know. I would love to help out. Thanks for any tips...

Howdy Dude You might do some driving around to some feed stores, ranches, or call some county ext. agents. I have had some good luck that way. I have been wanting to shoot some pigeons myself with my Marlin 17vs but have not taken the time to ask around. Good luck.

Dude Here,
Shoot them in the head like we do here in Texas. They will not know the difference being from Utah. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ask around to people with feed lots, and such. I blast a few on the Teton River in Idaho. They nest up in the big cliffs. Its great fun, and explosions are common.

I always see a bunch under the freeway overpasses on I-15. Just get over on the shoulder, slow down a bit, turn on your hazards of course, poke your scattergun out yon window and commence to firing! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif (The previous narrative is not to be taken seriously in any way, shape, matter, or form. It was only a weak attempt at humor. Had this been an actual offer of advice...)

In 90% of all seriousness, make yourself presentable, meaning a nice, somewhat pressed shirt, no ratty-arse blue jeans, keep camo and NASCAR images on your clothing to a minimum, and no "Damn Seagulls" caps, complete with fake gull guarno. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif This is always a struggle for me, but seems to be beneficial as oppossed to the alternative. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Get out there and do a little road work. A drive through the few remaining rural and shootable areas of Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber counties could prove productive. The more rural (or should I say "presently still rural") counties would obviously be a better bet, but it can sometimes be tough to find out who owns a particular piece of land, especially if you don't have any local connections.

I've always found and shot winged rats near grain silos or had them flushed them out of quansit huts and such out buildings with rocks, then blasted them as they made their way to another likely roost. But this method often requires special permission, like the kind you get when you work on said farm, or are known and trusted by the farmers.

One things for sure, most farmers would be glad to have their resident nuisance populations thinned down some, if not wiped off the face of the earth. Just locate a farm with pigeons, which is very likely any such farm with grain fed animals and roosting areas nearby, knock a few doors, be polite, gracious, and presentable and you're bound to find your way to some good flying rat shooting!

Scattergunner- Sounds like you have contemplated that more than once. As a youth growing up in LA, There was no shortage of flying rats. The LA wash is home to thousands of them. I have had a few Bee Bee guns confiscated while spotlighting them at night.

Dude- I think the pervious posts are your best bet. Good luck.
