This was a ladder test I did this morning using nas3 cases ramshot tac an 53gr vmax from my 16" howa.... would like to find a more temp stable powder that I can get close to these velocities with....I was thinking benchmark?
223 howa mini action with a 16" barrel... im just getting the cases an loading them... far as I know you can only reload the pistol calibers an not the rifle cartridges... I am saving all the cases just in case somthing changes... I uniform the case mouth so they all have the same neck tension an then load them up.. I have another ladder test worked up with TAC 31.5gr but I haven't had the chance to get out yet... 16" 223 howa bolt action is all I have been using for testing..Seth,
I have not used it listened to a podcast and was going to order some up and see what it was all about. Are you running it in a 223? Bolt gun? Reloading and resizing or just once firing and tossing?
I am very curious about how far it could be pushed in the of my longer barreled 223 rifles.
Thanks for the feedback.
Adam
I would think so!Wonder if it would help boost velocities for those of us hunting with short barrels like my 10.5" pushing 68gr bullets and how much of an actual gain it would be.
NAS3 is a NoGo for me in just shooting paper and steel for fun. It makes it to much a 'boutique' round . But it is GO for an option in Hunt, and possibly self defense rounds because I dont shoot a big volume, and just looking for strait performance.Well if you can't reload it, count me out. I'm not a one time user.
I bet you could stretch the neck some for 6x45... I don't have a 6x45 or I would try it... I know before I got my 6mm max I was going to go with 6x45 an I was thinking the same thingNice info.. I was just talking about the NAS3 with someone last night I hunt with . Sound like you can't reload a bottle neck NAS3, only straight wall like pistol Cal..
We were really curious if the possibility of necking-up to 6x45 for some real high performance . but that sounds like a NoGo
They do offer the NAS3 for BLK, and with that cartridge with such a small shoulder, I wondering if that is possible for reload ?
I already getting 2500+ fps Vel. with my boltaction and 110's . I might by some of those NAS3 in .30BLK. to check-out. Getting anything higher Vel. than 2500 fps would be gravy with that little cartridge .
.

You do gain some capacity... so it's about the same as a 223 ackley improved case capacity... far as the pressure im not sure... im going to run another ladder test in about an hour.... if I sill don't see any pressure signs or a hard bolt lift im going to call it with this powder... I might try to find some more temp stable powder that will give me similar velocities if I can... but I'm getting low on the NAS3 cases now ! I'm going to have to order more!Would be nice but, Steel and it manufactured with such a thin wall case .. case size, It is what it is . also.. Fire forming is ( my guess ) is a real big NO to .

ordered some of them today to checkout and run threw Chony.
I still not getting how they take MORE pressure against the Primer pockets, without piercing/blowing primers ?
I get that steel primer pockets are stronger and not stretching/getting loose like standard brass cases with Hot Loads . But you still got a flash-hole, and also using same industry standard primers .

Next time I can get to scheels ill have to see what I can get... I was thinking benchmark 8208 h322 or h4895.... but honestly I'm pretty happy with TAC for the most part... just would be nice to have a powder that isn't temp sensitive... but other than that it does pretty good an its not as bad as some an i can get it for 40/lb ... especially in my 6max..I've played with TAC in the .223 using LC and commercial cases, predominately with the speer 50 gr TnT bullet. The combo did shoot well.
I shifted back to H335 with those same projectiles, and the load worked to be more consistent, and had better results.
Of course that was with shell chuckers (AR-15's). H335 or even benchmark that you referenced, may produce what you are after in results.
Dang, that is straight up booking for a short barreled 223. Makes me wonder what could be possible for a longer barreled 22-250. I can already hit 4000 FPS with a 24" barrel and Leverevolution without destroying brass. So i just got back... I did a group with 30.8gr of TAC at 2.258
The other group was 31.1gr of tac at 2.262
Nas3 case
53gr vmax
Ramshot TAC

I will post screen shots i took
That's what I was wondering!? Or even a short barrel 22-250!Dang, that is straight up booking for a short barreled 223. Makes me wonder what could be possible for a longer barreled 22-250. I can already hit 4000 FPS with a 24" barrel and Leverevolution without destroying brass.
What's the barrel length an what bullet are you using?
