Anyone recommend a Henry rifle?

About five years ago I went looking for a lever action rimfire rifle and really wanted the Henry to fit the bill. Unfortunately when I put it to my shoulder I could not get a decent fit and my head was too far below the line of sight. So I bought a Winchester 9417 on closeout from a store in Shaumberg Illinois and boy do I love that little thing. I do think I would have been happy with the Henry had it fit me. Good luck, Dave
 
I would go with the henry, great gun will last forever, your kids will be passing it down to there kids. If your worried about weight look into the youth model, not sure on the weight but I have one and is very light.

Good point,,,,,,,,, Also be aware that the stocks are interchangable so If you get the youth model now,, you can add the full sized stock when the boys get older and bigger..

I purchased a .22 Mag. Henry and it is the most accurate .22 Mag. that I've ever owned. I've owned (all .22 Mags.) a Marlin (mag. fed), Marlin (tube fed) and a Taurus (pump action) and the Henry was more accurate than the previous 3 rifles.

I also own a Henry Big Boy, in .357 Mag. that's very accurate, fun to shoot and is an absolutely beautiful rifle.

It's a little louder than the .22 Mag. and about twice as much recoil...it weighs just over 8 lbs.

I'd advise staying away from the Yellow Boy, as it has an extreme amount of drop in the stock and this keeps your chin on the stock with your head straight up. Not a very good position for shooting accurately, but it was a period correct style of rifle. The standard stock allows for better cheek weld and improved accuracy.

Probably a "true" statement if you've never owned a Win 9422 or an older Marlin 39A.

But the bottom line is: The Henrys lever guns are well worth the money and are very smooth and serviceable. And their customer service is very good...

A little out of the "budget" bracket, but surprised no one has brought up the BL-22. I was raised on one with an old Weaver scope with a little tiny dot where the crosshairs met. Good memories and a fine rifle.
 
I have heard but cannot confirm that the "coating" on the receiver of the Henry "basic model" is prone to flaking off.

This is only what I have heard and have no first hand experience. Take it for what it is worth. Heresay on the internet.
 
My Dad and I checked a lot of lever guns out before he decided to to buy the Henry, and he loves it. One other note, Henry has a great discount program on their 22's if you are a Hunters Ed instructor. Great US company with a quality product!

Some would consider that advice dishonest, and an abuse of a kind gesture by a well intentioned American firearms manufacturer.

Others (like the ATF) might consider it illegal..

I just bought the 22LR last year, and I love it. It is smooth and accurate. My seven year old granddaughter enjoys shooting it as well.

I just got my first Henry lever action rifle this year in 22lr and I am extremely glad that I did.
Both of my son's have their own single shot 22's and they still enjoy shooting them now just as much as they did when they first got them but it's all I can do to load the Henry fast enough for them to shoot it and I am lucky to squeeze off a shot of my own with it! They won't put it down until the box of rounds is empty or the sun goes down, which ever comes first!

The one I picked up is their entry level blued version w/round barrel for just over $260 with tax. I would love to have some extra cash and get a Golden Boy sometime in the future, they are truely a great looking rifle.
This little rifle is more accurate then I am with any type of ammo we have fed it so far and has not failed to fire after several thousand rounds thus far.

Great idea for the next generation of shooters, affordable, accurate, reliable, and probably the funnest little rifle I have ever shot. I should have got one of these years ago.

It's evident from your first post that you are a younger sportsman,,who I'm sure,, had no bad intentions in mind. I could and should have worded that a little better.
No harm done..

Edit: One quick thing.. What you suggested is actually a Felony and could effect ones ability to even own a firearm..
