Anyone Reloading for .223 AR-15?

I run 55gr dog town bullets in a 1 in 8 twist with 25gr of 335. accurate enough for what I use it for.

Use the rifle as the case gage and make sure it will go into battery as you adjust the sizing die before sizing a bunch only to find out they won't let the bolt lock into battery. The Dog Town bullets will be fine and I shoot a bunch of them. I like them. Mag length will keep you from seating to far out. I have found lots of unfired new 5.56 on the ground at the range that I have picked up and use for measurements when setting up for the ARs. A lot of the things you have leaned about loading for bolt rifles doesn't apply to ARs.

This or get a Hornady headspace tool and measure a fired case and set the shoulder back .003 to .005

Well, shucks! He called last night and informed me that both his
barrels are 1:7 twist. That pretty much rules out the Dogtown
bullets unless I can come up with a slow load with a recoil that
will allow the rifles to cycle without jamming. Any suggestions?
What about another cheaper bullet other than FMJ's that will
withstand such a tight twist?

my colt is 1/7. I worked up loads with 55gr BT's and 53 gr VMax bullets but found that the best accuracy was with lesser powder charges, not max.

you really need the rifle to work up your loads and find what works.

If past experience with bolt actions is relevant, I'll need to
play with both of his rifles.

The inexpensive Hornady 55gr soft points shoot sub-MOA in my 1/7 twist barrel as well in one of my 1/8 twist barrels. They only do about 1.25 MOA in another 1/8 barrel. You just never really know until you try them.
