anyone think it's time for a Raven hunting season??

I have a friend that spent two years working for the feds placing poisoned eggs out trying to kill ravens to try and save the sage grouse.

Several states have very aggressive raven abatement programs going. All scared crapless, and rightfully so, of the consequences if sage grouse get declared endangered.

Anyone in one of at least two western states noticed road kill getting picked up by the state a lot faster than it used to? Part of the anti raven, pro sage grouse campaign. They are hoping to have an impact on raven numbers by reducing carrion available to them.

Last reports I read though, none of this is having much of an impact or resulting in better lek production.

Ravens are a problem for sage grouse, for sure. But not near as big a problem as habitat loss. And that's never going to be reversed.

Poison eggs may have been what they did here. I remember they spread straw bedding out first.
High paid babysitters have gone to extremes for the sage grouse around here. RF tagging, closing roads, eradicating predators, and even trading Utah elk for more grouse.
They have a ridiculous goal of X amount of Leks which I don't ever see happening. It is job security though.
With the growing number of bald eagles and golden eagles kills have occurred to tagged birds right in front of the babysitters.

Here's an example of Ravens taunting a coyote at my bait site, at the 0:12 mark.

This spring the ravens have been busy. I've heard a couple of scruffles out in the trees around my house. When I go out to check it out I have witnessed several times a raven stealing and eating baby doves and robins. The parents of the baby doves and robins try an attack the raven but with no positive effect. Never noticed it before. I've always had numerous nests in my back yard, this year they are all empty due to the ravens.
