Anyone use a ar 15 for really up close coyote hunting?

As far as shotguns I seldom carry one hunting solo, but do in some real tight spots. Hunting with a friend, one of us takes my short AR and the other a shotgun in tighter cover.

I had issues with my 870 turkey gun wanting to throw every coyote load I tried through it really high no matter what choke I used. I ended up buying a 20" barrel from Midway with rifle sights. I'd already invested in a Carlsons coyote choke for the Remington. Dead Coyote loads pattern great from this barrel/choke and I adjusted the sights to make the pattern center where I want it at 40 yards. If you can't find a better option I'd try a barrel with sturdy adjustable sights.

That is interesting. My partner AzBushman had the same experience with his Remington 870 turkey gun. We finally put a red dot on it and it is a slayer.

I recently picked up a Mossberg 500 20in turkey tactical and it too threw my loads high. I finally determined that the sights are set too high on the gun. So I ditched the factory front and rear and went to a more typical bird sight on the front, which is lower down on the vent rib. It shoots like a laser beam now.

I don't have a ton of shotgun experience except for trap shooting and bird hunting. I don't know if my results are normal or not. A red dot is a great idea though, probably a better one than the sights I went to. When I'm not hunting with this shotgun it is the one the wife keeps handy in case she needs to shoot something and I didn't want to complicate things. Irons are simple and effective at shotgun range.

I tried a Mossberg turkey 930 but ended up selling it. It didn't pattern great either with the factory chokes and the factory sights were pretty flimsy. I didn't have it to long, I just liked my old 870 better.

Update to my dilemma
I ended up buying a Carlson 18 1/2 inch threaded barrel and three chokes for the Remington 870. Did some initial testing with federal vital shock00 buckshot. Full choke no good kinda expected that. I got a good pattern with modified not so good with improved cylinder.. Then I put the cylinder bore choke in it and got as good at tern as the modified.......... Yet with the original factory barrel with cylinder bore, I couldn't get any pellets On paper!. Shotguns are more finicky than I thought. I also shot a load mod choke and 3 inch Remington #4 buck which patterned good but ouch!, what a difference in recoil.
All the patterns shot high.this barrel has a bead on the front that sits on a piece of metal that elevates it..when I sight down the barrel I need to set just the bead on the receiver. All shots were at 30 yards. I am comfortable shooting this now at that distance but need to shoot at longer distances to see how it does.
