ANYONE USING LEUPOLD VX3 WITH VARMINT RETICLE

I went scope shopping yesterday and fell in love with this scope. Not the price tag but the scope. Is anyone using one of these? And how do you like it? Thanks in advance.

I'm using the same scope and reticle for prairie dogs in your state of Montana, with great success. For coyotes, here in Ga. the scope wouldn't work....too much power. But for you in Montana, in the "wide open spaces" it should work fine. I've found that here in Ga., the shots are not very far, and a wide field of view and low power are much more beneficial.

Great scope!

I've got a friend of mine who loves em. I think he is gonna sell all his scopes and replace em with the varmint reticle. LOL

He used to write a lot of articles for Todd Kindler and the Small Caliber News Magazine, so he is respected for his knowledge/opinions of guns and scopes.

But for me, I am like nr123, to much hunting here in the east that requires larger field of view and lower magnification. I have one Leupold 6.5x20x50 VX-III on a Cooper 22-250,groundhog gun, but it has the fine target dot.

I find the Varminter Reticle to be to busy for incoming or moving targets, would be great for something stationary, groundhogs and prairie dogs at longer ranges.

That is the exact scope I have on my Rock River Varminter in 223 Remington.

The scope works great.

I had to put about 150 to 200 rounds down the tube before I had the full "hang" of using the scope. But now that I have it figured out, the scope along with the AR style rifle has extended my shots on ground hogs from 300 yards to between 400 and 450 yards.

IMO the 223 is too light to shoot at ground hogs past 300 yards. So I limit my shots with most rifles to 300 yards. I hate crawl-offs. However with the AR a fast double tap is easily delivered, and is also a lot of fun to deliver. And with the ease of the VH reticle in the Leupold, double tap shots are a breeze.

Once you put enough pills down the tube to get the hang of the scope, you will really like it. I hunt ground hogs in WV with mine. I am not a PD hunter, but I can imagine that the scope would be the "berries" for PD's. Tom.

I have one in 8.5-25x50. It took a little to get used to it, is a bit busy as Pruson notes, but it really worked for me when it was windy. I couldn't get the instructional disc to work but that's ok, my daughter says I never read the instructions anyway.

I have one in 4.5-14. Got it as an all around scope but it has since been relegated to a long range setup. May have to trade up to the 6.5-20 since that rig will see more prairie dog use than calling use.

The VH reticle is a great tool IMO.

I have (2). 6.5-20*50 and a 8.5-25*50.

I hardly used the ret around my area. I dial elevation exclusively.

I used the ret when I went on a PD trip in SD. It worked well, esp on the AR for quick follow up shots.

Mine is a 6-20X56.I am still working with the reticle holdover lines.Soon as the weather gets better i will get it all figured out .

I have one in a 4.5-14x VX-III. It's on a Savage Striker 243 WSSM. It's excellent for long-range shooting. With some loads such as mine it needs to be matched up to the load. The reticle definitely wasn't designed for VLD bullets at lower velocities.

I have two and the varmint reticle is by far my favorite.
My VLP 204 has a VXL 6.5 - 20 x 56
My 243 T3 lite has a VX111 4.5 - 14 x 40

I have a VXIII in 4.5 x 14 on this gun. While I wouldn't trade it for the world, I have had my fair share of target acquisition difficulties under 100 yards when set at 14. Fortunately here in Idaho, I usually shoot animals at over 100 yards. I love the reticle itself.
