my hearing is somewhat shot for my age ive already got this so called tinnitus because im always hearing a slight ringing so does anyone have a device like the walkers game ear that works? but costs less? like 50 dollar range?

id wear ear muffs but then i cant really hear at all and i dont want to be fiddling with them trying to put them on if something comes in...

or any tricks to help save my hearing?

There are electronoc muffs with stereo mics and a volume control.
I bought a pair of the Caldwell low-profile ones from Midway for around $25 that work well and are fine for shooting the AR. They cut off at a gunshot for about a second and you don't even hear it. That's what you're wanting, right?

They really get annoying if the wind's blowing, though.

Here's all the models Midway carries, I have the top ones. I'm sure there are better ones, but I can't tell you which ones.

I've used Peltor and Pro-Ears for years...One of the quality differences is the amount of time that the noise canceling circuit takes to restore the listening after the shut down from the shot..as well as sensitivity to background noises...

In a hunting scenario it may not be that important whether it's one or more seconds, but in competition, where range commands are given by a safety officer, that time lag can mean the difference in understanding what is being said when other gunshots are present..

The lower quality ones will amplify your breathing and pulse noises if turned up to hear minute sounds and are really bad in a breeze...Your better quality ones usually have much clearer sound quality without the background distraction..

It pays to try several in a store if you are buying your first pair...If you find one that suits your needs, then either buy it there or order mail order..Put on a pair and walk around the store to check for the pulse and heartbeat noise, as well as having someone create a loud noise to see what the sound recovery time lag happens to be..

Also, compare the type of batteries used... AA and AAA are readily available if needed, NP-123s are about $15 a pair... some models also have auto shut-off circuits that prevent battery drain after a period of time..

ya im wanting something to block the gun shot but also let me hear a howl or even hear the big puddy cat sneaking up behind me about to rip me to shreds.

how are they when shooting? i have a cheap pair of just plain earmuffs that cost me about 5 bucks and they work they stop all noise but they tend to get in the way when shooting sometimes

Check out the Howard Leight Impact electronic muffs. They are excellent. You can adjust the volume and even enhance the sound, above normal level. They are low profile, so they don't interfere with shooting and fold up for compact storage. They run on AA batteries. The price is good, too.
