figured I might as well paint the barreled action since i just painted the stock and scope. sticks out like a sore thumb.just curious if anyone has used this stuff on stainless and how would i go about preparing the metal(i.e. sanding or steel wool).

I simply use disk brake cleaner to make sure all oil is off and paint it in a warm area and let cure well before putting back together. blue

Yes, I have used it (AlumaHyde II) on a stainless barrel. I used 600 grit sand paper first on the barrel, rough steel wool will work OK as well I'd guess. Pretty much follow the directions:

Lay the barreled action in the sun for 20 minutes, or an oven for 5....apply brake cleaner spray, , wipe off with paper towel (and wear rubber gloves at ALL times to avoid leaving finger salts), then spar a second time, hang the part, paint, 2nd coat Light) in 10-15 minutes, its dry in aan hour or so but I let it cure for 1 week hanging in a 90 deg. garage (summer time)

This stuff works great and is not much $...!

I would only add to the above, I use a heat gun to warm the barreled action up so that I can apply it in the winter as well.

thanks for the tips. planning on using it for a savage 116 with an adjustable muzzle brake. any advice on painting the brake, or should i just tape it off.

The AHII will probably burn in the ports of the brake, but it probably won't happen immediately. I would say do it so that it matches, but you may have to touch it up later.
