AR 15 Brass Catcher

In the market for a brass catcher for my AR's and wonder what you all have used and what the results have been. Now that I have a .17 Remington upper, brass is too expensive to be losing! I have looked at several models, but first hand experience would be appreciated. If you don't mind, add where you can get the models that you recommend if you know. Thanks!!!

I have used many different catchers over the years. The one that I settled on is the WOOK. It's made out of nylon and fastens to the hand-guard by Velcro.

I stock them, so if you want one, just let me know.

The WOOK catchers are $40.00, but I sell them to PM members for $35.00.

I told Totch that I just received some new catchers that are only $10.00. They are the same design, but not quite as nice. If you want to be a Guinea pig, and try out one of the new ones, let me know.

I have one of the mesh ones with the zipper down the rear side and the velcro attachment strap for the handguard.

The only problem I've experienced is two of my ARs have the brass deflector and it will sometimes cause it to hang up on the wire frame around the ejection port. On my slick sides, it works great.

There is one that has the zipper along the bottom that I like better. A buddy has it, but can't remember where he got it.

Get yourself a good woman, some Barry White on the radio and before long you'll have a universal caliber brass catcher. Might take a few years to get "calibrated," but should give you lifelong enjoyment.

I had the wife whip one up for me and it works real fine. I saw what some of them looked like told the wife the size described to her what it would look like and when I got home from work she had it all whipped up for me. She said it took all of 15 minutes to whip it up. Velcro hooks it around the scope and she has shown velcro all along the bottom it is easy to open. Probably cost me $3.

CW.. You are a lucky man... My wife's sewing machine was a casualty of the 'Great Flood of '93' and she has never wanted it replaced... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I do, however, have a friend whose wife is a professional seamstress and once in a while she takes pity on me... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

David..I bought the one from 3bucc.com I really like it. Easy on and off clean mounting system and fits the gun case..works perfect and nice people to deal with. worth the extra few bucks IMO! They have a lot of pics on their site. I have heard the vinyl bags melt off on the hot brass, this is made from canvas.

I tried the solid hard plastic type prior, I didn't like the start of marks it was making on the upper from on and off to the gun case.

Not sure of the brand of it but a buddy bought one from Cheaper than Dirt and after a slight modification really likes it. I've been going to pick up a brass catcher but so far have been using my cap hung from the scope's elevation turret. Actually works quite well and has dual purpose use.

PS, the one thing I have noticed with this DPMS is that it seems to put the brass in a nice little pile about 4 feet to the right and 4 feet behind me for the most part.

Totch,
I will put in another vote for the WOOK. I own one and love it. I have however thought of making one myself.

I saw a pistol shooter today that was using a brass catcher and it looked like a fish net with a pedestal base. I might try making one out a fish net hooked to a tri-pod. But would the hot brass melt the net?

I have one of the cheap ones with the zipper on the bottom, but it is a pain when when shooting single shot.

The problem with them is when they get up to about fourteen or fifteen they discover that there is an opposite sex and then pretty soon you have to find a replacement. But they do make replacments somtimes too.
