Which do you prefer and why?

I have the A2 that Dtech lazered his name into when he build my AR. But am really thinking about getting the adjustable or the skeleton stock for looks. I think they both look much better than the A2's.

This is the one I am looking at and at $50 it is a bargain. Those of you that have either of those 2 stocks would you recomend them or not?
 
I don't like my collapsable for hunting. It's too loose and sometimes noisy. I don't find any benifits with being able to collapse is anyway since I use 16-18" barreled guns for hunting. The Skeleton stock is great and very comfortable. If the Skeleton stock performs well in the cold MN winter weather I'll be using one of them from now on. Otherwise my go to right now is the regular old A2.
 
I had an A-2 on mine until this year. I put the Ace skeleton stock on mine a couple months ago. I don't know why I waited so long. It is much more comfortable to shoot and carry. Not much difference in weight, just feels much better.
 
What is the main use of the rifle?

If its for predator hunting then I would opt for an adjustable stock. I have standard 4 & 6 position adjustables and also have a Magpul 93B, Magpul CRS (I think that is what they call it) and a CAA which in my opinion is junk. I really like the 93B (now discontinued)and CRS and also the VLTORs. Magpul has a NEW adjustable stock coming out soon that is marketed as the cats @ss and the tariff reflects that. I would give the CRS a good look at as its comfortable, good looking, easily adjustable and locks in place also is priced pretty well at around $90 w/o tube, spring and buffer.

On my mostly bench or prone guns, its pretty hard to beat the A2 stock especially if your using a rear bag. I remove the sling loop on the butt so its easy to use the rear bag and the A2 stock just seems to fit me well.
 
Good info to know fellas. Man I just can't decide. They both look very cool and neither are a need. The A2 works just fine. For as simple as the Skeleton is it sure is expensive.

On other question I just thought of is are they raised the same amount as the A2 and are they comfortable to shoot in conjuction with scope hieght?
 
Yes, same straight comb. Has to be since the ACE uses your existing A2 buffer tube & spring...

Yes, the ACE foam cheek is more comfortable to shoot than the hard plastic A2. All week long and twice as much on Saturdays!

When shooting prone with the ACE, I use either a Triad rear bag or my weak side balled up fist for holding on target...
 
Three AR's in different calibers and all wear the Ace full length stock, one AR has a 20" barrel and rifle length handguards and the other two are 16" barrel with midlength handguards. They are much more comfortable shooting.

I think the Mag Pul you are refering to is the CTR, it is/was the transition from the 93 B to the new GTR? any way I put one on my 458 Socom build the CTR that is it is great! I really like the locking feature that was what sold me on it to begin with ( a guy on the 458 website had a Ace Socom collapse on him when shooting) But for the 5.56/223 ARany of them will do the CAA is reported to be junk BTW. One of the benifits of the colapsig stock is that you do not always wear the ame clothing in winter you usually have a heavy coat and in summer usually only a t shirt, being able to adjust the stock and length of pull is a real help. Also if your instructing small statured people women or kids the ability to adjust length is a big help.
 
Have 1 ace and one A2. The build I'm doing now will have the Ace also. Like Knockemdown said, Its way more comphy especially when its cold out.

I kind of like the Ace SOCOM if I wanted a telescoping stock.

I am a big fan of Magpul's stocks. I now have one of each of there currently available stocks. Each has it's benefits. The CTR is light and compact. The PRS is great for a bench rifle. The UBR, the newest, is a nice compromise. Here is a shot of my new gun with a UBR.

Yotekyller thanks for asking I use a Leupold M4 with a 50 objective but i got the adjustable cheek rest on the stock just in case i need it for some of those other optics i like to use /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I love the Magpul CTR stock on my carbine. Light, comfortable, & it locks up tight with zero rattles. The extra friction lock works as designed. The PRS is nice for a heavy varmint/bench rifle. I think the standard A2 stock works fine if you have your scope mounted at proper height.

I put a Skeleton stock on my 16" Rock River and I absolutely love it.

I had the 6pos collapsible on it, but it had more than enough play in it, where it was almost impossible to get settled in.

If I was going collapsible I'd go with the CTR as well.

you are correct, I guesss I have what they call CRS, can't remember shiet. But I think you have it too, the new MagPul is the UBR, not GTR /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I guess that disease affects everyone now and then.

I went with the ACE skeleton and it's a lot nicer than an A2. It also gets rid of most of the spring noise (the hollow A2 amplifies it greatly, in my opinion).
Same cheek weld and didn't make my optics shift from the A2 as far as I could tell. No trapdoor, but you get some extra sling attachment points. Weight is about the same, I'd say.
I'm very happy with it.
From my research, Magpul CTR is the adjustable stock that gets no complaints for rigidity and ease of use.
 

I have to ask those that state that the CAA collapsible
stock is "junk"? I have a few different collapsible
stocks(Oly Arms(Aluminum), DPMS Pardus, and CAA), and
the CAA seems to me to be the best of the bunch, at least
for rattling...It is so tight on the tube, it can't rattle.
So what do you base the "junk" assessment on?

I didn't like the collapsible stock. It wasn't conducive in getting a good stock weld. I have switched to the A2 and it feels much better.
 
I've used A2, ACE skeleton, YHM skeleton, and shot an AR with a Magpul PRS. I'd recommend the A2 or the ACE. I didn't like the YHM skeleton because the sling always wrapped around the butt plate. The PRS is very nice, but I feel it has way more features than I need and it's expensive. It would be the best benchrest stock, in my opinion.
