AR-15 Trigger for varmint hunting

If you are actually talking about "Varmints" as opposed to Predators, then you will find that most of that shooting is done from a stable platform (bench, bipod, etc.) and a lighter trigger will help in your accuracy a lot...One of the higher dollar ones that are adjustable down to approximately 8 ounces to 1.5 pounds...

However, those type of settings are not safe for general hunting situations..

Timney 3lb is fine if you're not using the lower with a dedicated .22 upper or you're not planning on firing some of the mil-surp ammo. The Timney just didn't have enough power. I can't get my CMMG 22 upper to even fire with the Timney. I've also had issues with Wolf and other steel not firing.

I have to recommend the Geissele SSA-E for an all purpose trigger.

I really enjoy the JP Trigger kit. Takes a little modification to get everything adjusted right but once that's done its a great trigger. Breaks right around 3-3.5#.

I also have a Timney in my AR-10. For the price, I'd go with the JP. They both break clean and are around the same #.

i have 3 timneys, one four pound and two 3 pound. never had any troubles with them in 22lr or surplus ammo, or handloads.

I have a Timney drop in that I think works great, plus it's super easy to install. I have put the JP trigger kits in before but have not been super satisfied. Goes back to the ole saying "you get what you pay for" I have shot the Geissele and it is a wonderful trigger but I have been happy with the Timney as well.

I used to criticize the JP in favor of the RRA 2 stage because it took some time to set up the JP and the RRA was simple. I have to say that shooting both suppressed the JP seems to handle the additional gas in the action MUCH better than the RRA. A few hundred rounds later and the JP still breaks nice and clean whereas the RRA is rougher and takes more pressure to pull (verified by trigger scale). Sure I can spray out and clean up the RRA, but that's down time I don't need. I'm not buying any more RRAs if that tells you anything.

Now the Geissele that came on my Colt Competition CRP-18 is just plain awesome. That's a 3 gun rifle, but I wouldn't hesitate to use that set up for coyotes, prairie dogs, sage rats, what have you. It is my favorite for sure.

Geissele SSA-E gets my vote, I believe it's the best all purpose trigger as stated above.

I had a Timney but sold it for the SSA-E

I just installed the JP trigger kit in one of my ARs. Took quite a bit of stoning and adjustment to get it to work. Now that it's installed I am happy with it though. It is my predator hunting rifle so I didn't want anything lower than the 3lbs it's set at.

Just bought the SSA-E for my RRA upper on a NFA billet lower. Sweet trigger.
