AR-15 Trigger

AR-15 Trigger

I am looking for a single stage trigger modification/replacement for my Colt AR-15. I have looked at both the Jard and Jewell and they come highly recommended. Also looking at the Accuracy Speaks, it is a ‘drop in ‘ and does not require smithing. While more expensive, approx $180 vs $130 I think the additional cost of the smith will eat that difference up pretty quick.

In addition, what pull weight do I have to have to compete in Service Rifle?

If you're looking for a single stage trigger I'd recommend a JP trigger. Just put one in my AR and I love it. Huge improvement from the factory trigger. I bought mine from Brownells, and MidwayUSA has them also. I had mine set at 3lbs which is fine for me for hunting. Good Luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I may be mistaken as it has been a while since I competed in NRA Hi-Power, but my recollection is that the trigger on an AR must weigh 4 1/2 pounds.

I agree. I have a JP trigger and hammer in my Olympic Arms PCR-3 and it made a world of difference. I went from shooting 1" ot 3/4" groups to 1/4" groups with the right bullet and a nice smooth trigger pull. Thr trigger breaks at about 2 1/2 to 3lbs. with no overtravel. I put it in in about 30 minutes and it was worth the $180 that I paid for it. I got mine from Midway and had it in about 2 days from the time I had ordered it. Good luck.

Mark,
The Jewell and AS triggers are two stage triggers. The only single stage triggers are the JP or Jard. For the single stage, I would recommend the JP. You can install it yourself. I use these in all my hunting and work AR's. I save the two stage triggers for match rifles.

If you are looking at a Service Rifle trigger, must be no more than 4 1/2 lbs, you will want a really good two-stage like the Jewell. These triggers give you a 1-lb trigger pull at the second stage if you want and can't be beat!

On the single stage pulls, you can get a 3-lb pull with the JP. You have to be careful of others claims to light pulls. If they are too light, you can get doubles or full-auto busts, from recoil impulse. 3-lbs would be as light as I would go on a single stage trigger.

Yes, some Colt blocked receivers have to be worked on to accept certain triggers.

Brownell's has JP triggers for $140.00.

Steve meant to say that Service Rifle triggers must be no LESS than 4.5 pounds. And like he said the 2 stage with a 1 pound second stage is the only way to go. At a big match you will not see anybody in the top 75% using anything else. And 99% of them will be Jewells.

If you want to compete, you can save yourself a lot of frustration, aggrivation, money, time, loosing, etc. by copying what the winners are using. If it didn't work, the winners would not be using it.
