dose anyone have a J&T bullbarrel kit . I am thinking about buying an ar and was looking around at prices J&T kit is every thing you need execpt the stripped lower [16 or 20 in ss bull shaww I think full floted for arm and standerd a2 but stock]$535. this with a RRA stripped lower for $140 would be a good buy would't it. are there better deals out there let me know

Yup, sounds like you did your homework pretty good!
You can get Lowers for $100- $105.

CMMG DPMS forged lowers

And you can get RR lowers for $100 everywhere.

The Jnt bull kits are sweet. Very accurate and quality materials. They will shoot with the best of 'em. Just a few hundred cheaper and minus the brand name stamps. They can even put it together for ya(the upper) and all you will need to do is slap the lower together /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif My last DPMS lower went together with a very expensive tool called "my fingers" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I do enjoy tooling arround with building but its so much easier to slap the upper n lower together. Wait did I just say I am lazy? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I would think anyone would be happy with the quality of a Jnt kit, any of them. Hopefully others will chime in with RRA lower leads. Dont pay over 100 bones /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif jerryboy

Sure, go to ar15.com and visit the equiptment exchange board. It has several different catagories. ar15.com equiptment exchange

I just bought 2 new in box carbine uppers for $400. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I usually just buy from JnT or legal transfers, Pete in NH., you will see some of his listings in the EE board. you will do good buying the rifle online and having a lower shipped to your FFL. The only silly part is, you have to have your FFl mail in a copy of his FFl (signed)and then a distributer will mail the lower to your FFL for transfer to you. It should only take a week from start till you have the lower in your hands.
I have a couple extra new in box uppers if n ya know anyone interrested. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

JnT and most distributers are very quick and very cool to deal with. Oh yea heres a good place too. DEL-TON Inc

www.cmmginc.com is a good place to deal with. www.jtdistributing.com sells a great kit. I've put together a few of their kits without any problems ever. Best of all Jesse, from JT, takes care of his customers. His 1/8 fluted 24" bull barrel is a great shooter. My brother was getting much better groups with his JT than his Bushmaster Varminter. However, the JT bull barrel uppers are extremely heavy. I wouldn't want to lug one between stands. Everyone that has dealt with "Pete in NH" AKA Legal Transfers, has had nothing but good to say about him and his work. I just think he's a little high on his prices. www.sherluk.com puts together a really nice upper. Their web site sucks, but they do good work. They also offer a chrome lined barrel for an extra $50. I know that a chrome lined barrel is not the most accurate, but if I'm splaching around in the mud and muck for hours at a time I insist on one.

As was mentioned, you can find a wealth of information on www.ar15.com. That's about the only other shooting sight I regularly visit.

Good luck and be careful. These black rifles multiply in the safe!

ok, your talking 675.00 for a kit gun which you'll have to put togather. For 870.00 (if you order upper and lower separately) you can get an RRA varminter which will include a NM trigger, EOP upper (these are very nice) and the RRA warranty. They are advertised to shoot sub MOA but mine does much better.

If you look around ar15.com in the equipment exchange you'll fins RRA lowers from Pete in NH and a few other people. I've used RRAs and just about every other brand on the market. One of the best lowers I've used is the Eagle Arms/Armalite. Quantico Arms has them for $100 and you can get consecutive serial numbers if you like. http://www.quanticoarms.com/armalite/eagleArmsReceivers.htm

You will have about $635 in a rifle you can say you made yourself and that, from what I've seen, will shoot great with the JT bull barrel. Just be sure to get a 1/8 twist.

Just come to the Knob Creek Machine gun shoot outside of Louisville, KY and you can pick which kit you want. J&T, Model 1 and many other kit dealers are there. You'll be able to get your lower at the show too. All this for a good deal. J&T and Model 1 will give you a deal at the show if you just ask.

I bought a JT 16"A2 upper and have been very happy. Put this on a DPMS lower...was easy and fun to build.

I now want to get a flat-top for varmint shooting. Who has experience with the high-rise vs. the standard flat-top? What is the best barrel length 20", 22" or 24"? Dont plan on lugging this around too far.

Thanks in advance!

K-Y 23, when is this show? And when you say "good deal" what kind of prices are you talking about? It would be a nice little drive for me to head that way. Thanks for the info.

Sorry for such a basic question but what is an NM trigger? I can feel the darkness creeping into my predator side. I'm trying to learn about building an AR and all the posts are most helpful. Thanks for your input.

Also, why was the 1:8 twist a recomendation? I was looking for on that would spit out the 45, 50 and 52 grain bullets my bolt gun shoots so well. Am I offbase in this thinking?

Eric E,

The show is April 11th - 13th. Here is a link for more info:

http://www.machinegunshoot.com/

I talked to both J&T and Model 1 sales at the gun show. They both offered to take $20 off the price of the kits if I bought with cash at the gun show. Not much but it makes up for what you paid to get in the show. Plus there is so much more to see and buy at the show.

If you are into AR's or shooting in general its a good gun show. You can buy military surplus items for good prices and other AR and gun related parts that would be hard to find in any singe place.

There are so many vendors there with so much competition it is easy to get a good deal. Most vendors at the show will haggle with you especially if rival vendors are also present.

bownarro1,

You won't be disappointed with J&T. They are great to deal with and my 24" bull barrel shoots 1/2 inch groups easily.

Rooster,

Barrel length, I know that my 16" is a lot easier to lug around all day than my 24". I'm thinking of building a new one with a 20" Krieger and a carbine length gas system. I saw this out of John Feamster's book. "Black Magic: The Ultra Accurate AR." He says it is light enough, and like all AR's we're discussing, extremely accurate. I'll let you know when it's done, but ultimately, a 16" will kill just as reliably at 250 yards. I like low rise best, but I think it's more about personal preference. I do recommend a GS-1 Rail so that you can position your scope far enough forward for proper eye relief. I like the tip of my nose to touch the charging handle.

Ed,

1:8 twist for heavy bullets up to 72 grains or more. 1:10, 1:12, 1:13, 1:14 for up to 55 grains. 1:8 will work fine with light bullets, because you can't overstabilize a bullet, but you might shoot the barrel out faster because of increased muzzle velocity with lighter bullets, increased heat, etc... NM trigger, single stage or two stage? For paper targets, a two stage is great, not so much for critters. Can't go wrong with a JP.

I couldn't agree more about the GG&G GS1 rail. I won't own a flattop AR without one.

Notice how far forward the scope is.
