AR loading and unloading for calling

I have hand loaded the first in the chamber every time I target shoot and I never had the second round not load from the clip. My 17 Rem upper has a loading problem at times when the bolt is locked back and a clip is put in if the shell isn't all the way back in the clip. I load the bullets out pretty far on the 17 rem. They will load every time when the clip is put in and then the load lever is pulled back and let ride. I think the bolt rubs the top round when it goes back and this pulls the round to the back of the clip, that gives it the longest travel to position itself to the chamber. I pound the back of my loaded clips against my leg to seat the shells against the back of the clip. I have never had a problem with rounds not loading this way.

mattm, you are right about not loading the clip full with a additional round in the chamber. I have modified my five round clips to hold almost six shells. They work now with five in the clip and one is in the chamber. In Michigan you can't have more than six shells in any hunting gun.

Mason Jarr, in Michigan you can't have a gun in a vehicle with shells in it, even if they are only in the clip in the gun. So driving around from stand to stand your gun has to be empty and nothing in the clip or no clip in gun, and plus it has to in a case.
