So Im going to be building a AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel, anybody had any luck with an AR-Stoner Barrel? Was thinking of getting the 18" fluted one. Also what's the deal with Grendel II chamber? Seems like some guys praise them while others think the opposite. Link to the barrel here
Can't seem to find much else out there for under $400, everyone seems to be out of stock. Feel free to mention any other barrels to me.
Thanks Guys

It's basically a Grendel with a standard 1.5° leade vs. the Grendel combination 0.5°/1.5° compound leade. It shares all the other case dimensions of the Grendel. It is allegedly the first Grendel design. My understanding was the Midway barrels were being done by Satern. I believe that is no longer true. The current chamber originated over a huge ugly dust up on a group buy over on another forum. Lots of drama and purse swinging. Lots of bans etc.

The GII and the 264 LBC are similar in the throat but the LBC has a slightly smaller neck. This is the one Ritch and I shoot. The accuracy has been phenomenal. You might give him a call and see what he can do. Finish, profile and gas length in a custom package.

GL is mostly right, I am not sure about now but the midway stoner barrels were made by liberty barrels. This is the button rifled division of saturn barrels. The G2 chamber came about when liberty used a worn out reamer that had shorter than normal specs for the throat. The grendel as I understand it has a compound cone throat. the G2 came about because it was able to fix the problem liberty created but would not admit to. The problem was chambering factory ammo, the question is should a barrel chamber factory ammo. liberty said they weren't in control of that. instead it was really their fault by using either the wrong reamer or an out of spec reamer.

this is why we have the G2 grendel. it has a standard style throat that is longer. does it matter? maybe, maybe not. I would probably get a black hole barrel if I was you instead. I actually was in the middle of all the dust up. The problem was at the time AR 15 parts were very very scarce and everything was back ordered. This lead to further make people mad because many had waited for months for a barrel they ordered. I ended up returning my stoner barrel and getting a shilen barrel. which shot amazing BTW, however at the end of the day back then I got tired of chasing components that were always out of stock. At the time you couldn't buy any factory ammo for the grendel and finding the right powders was a joke I gave up and sold off my upper and stuff for it. its all changed now with components but I have lost interest in doing a grendel again. instead I want DPMS to offer a gen 2 in other calibers besides 308.

I am unable to determine who is doing the Stoner barrels. I read a post on a Forum that the Satern/Liberty barrels had been replaced with a lower tiered product.

Thanks for all the info GL and Steve; much appreciated, the fog is lifting. GL, is Ritch's Precision Guns affiliated with Blackhole Weaponry? Dead Coyote, I called AA today and they are only offering a 16" barrel and dont take special orders (for anyone who was curious). I am kind of hesitant to go with the Stoner barrel because of lack of info.

Sorry to jump in on your thread. Why did you decide to go with the 6.5 Grendel? I'm looking to jump up from my 5.56 and there a some different options out there just trying to narrow it down.

Ritch uses only BHW barrels. He is on the Pro Staff and is the corner stone of their cartidge development. I am the pebble in the equation.

He builds custom uppers and also sells barrels. He can usually save you a few dollars plus cut down on delivery times.

I chose my grendel because it was a good fit for long range shooting out of the AR -15 platform. I have an 18" BHW 264 lbc barrel and I've ran it out to 600 yards with zero difficulty. The 6.5mm projectiles seem far superior ballisticly compared to say a 30 caliber bullet. I absolutely love my grendel and truely believe 800 + yards is attainable.

Just thought a 16" might of tempted you. I snagged a 24" from them about 2 months ago. We cut it down to a 20" and threaded it for a Suppressor. Waiting for the finished product from the paint shop.

The Grendel is easily able to attain 800 yards. Depending on the load a round will stay supersonic out to 1000+ yards. There is a LRSU milk jug shooter that used a Grendel to get his 1500 yard patch.

I'll definitely have to give Ritch a call then, looks like he makes some nice stuff. I've decided not to go with the stoner barrel, it's got me worried. I decided on the 6.5 build because of a variety of reasons. One its something different than a standard ar. The ballistics look phenomenal, and people are saying a lot of good things about them, they all can't be wrong. This will be my first build, my old man got an AR for Christmas and we got to thinking that it would be a fun project to do together. Also I've shot a ton of M4's being in the military and was just wanting something different for personal use. And that's how it came to be.

I run 95 vmax at about 2800fps out of a 16" barrel. 123 factory loads run around 2475, might be able to hand load something a little hotter, but haven't tried yet.
