ar trigger question

I just did the 15 minute trigger job myself. It took me about 30 minutes but I was taking my time. It took my factory Bushmaster trigger from a gritty 6.5 pounds to just under 5 pounds and very smooth. Best thing is it was free. I've been around 2 different aftermarket triggers and experienced doubling with both. Just google 15 minute AR trigger job, there's a nice pictorial and good directions.

They were both JB triggers, one was on my dpms LR308 and the other is my buddies bushy AR15. It has nothing to do with keeping the gun against your shoulder. With a light (under 3# trigger) the recoil can make your finger double tap the trigger. It happens more hunting than off the bench.

did the 15 minute job last night ,tried it out this evening and definitly smoothed it out,my wife shot it and commented that the trigger didnt feel as notchy

I put a 3# Timney in my first AR. Very simple to install. Liked it so much asked Mike to put one in my next. Neither have never doubled.

I just installed a JP Reduced Power spring kit in my AR. The difference is very obvious. It costs about $9 and 10 mins to install (takes me that long to find the tools that I scattered around). For those of you that are going to say it may lead to misfires, I am aware of the risk. I do not defend my life with the AR so... Of course the 15 minute trigger job essentially weakens the spring for a nicer pull too.

I will let you know how it shoots.

Shot it today, much lighter, still no match trigger but better. Not bad for $10.

I do all of my own AR triggers and few for friends and family BUT if you choose to do your own and it double taps, it’s very important to distinguish between bump firing because of a loose grip and full auto double taps, triple taps and beyond. These can be caused by a faulty disconnector or bad timing. If you’ve fiddled with your trigger and it’s doing the “double tap”. Get it fixed pronto. This is not something to fool around with. The feds don’t care one way or the other. If it will fire more than one round per trigger pull, you’re going to the big house.

There's 1 other concern as well. If it's double tapping because the disconnector isn't catching, the second, third, etc. rounds are actually firing before the bolt has a chance to lock completely. Which is a potentially dangerous situation.

Good point TCS, out of battery ignition can do very bad things to you and your gun.

I'm not against anybody doing their own triggers but it's a good idea to have spare practice parts and be willing to destroy the ones you screw up. Just having the bad parts in your possession is still an offense.
Like I said, the Feds don't care.

I have had the trigger worked in my DPMS LR308 and I put a Chip McCormick single stage in my Sweet 16. They both are a definate improvement over factory. I sent the 308 trigger off to a fellow my buddy has sent several triggers to and did a great job for around 50$. The McCormick was 200$ if you would like I could call my buddy tomorro and get the guy's email for you!

The Geissele triggers are top of the line. I have one in my match rifle and a DMR in a .260 I am building as we speak. I also have a Jewell, a JP adjustable and a couple of stock (read "lousy") triggers. The Geisselle is easily the best. The Jewell is not bad, but it drops off substantially to the JP. You get what you pay for.
