AR15 204 clip ?

I have been having a heck of a time getting my clip "tuned" on my AR 204 that I built. I have tweeked clip several times but it seems like it always wants to grap 2 bullets no matter how much or how little I tweek. I guess my question is, are there any tricks I am missing or any clips better then others for the 204? (have basic 20 rd. steel clips now)

I use C-Products 20 round steel mags. All I do to modify them is to take my dremel with a grinding stone and cut the top front edge down to a crescent shape so the edge of the neck of the brass doesn't catch on its way forward. My problem was that they were not feeding into the chamber without denting brass, but your problem of feeding two at a time sounds a little different. Try cycling your action very slowly and watching the bolt catch the round and see exactly where the problem starts. Could be that your feedlips are spread apart too far as well allowing the rounds in the mag to rise too high causing the bolt to catch a couple.

Hmm, that's weird, I didn't have to "tune" anything, a regular 20 rnd Colt mag works fine in mine, or I should say several of those mags I have work fine. The only thing I tried that didn't work are the Pmags. They do not work with a 204, the shoulder on the case is too far forward.

I would try a different mag altogether if you have one. Really don't know what else to tell you, sorry I couldn't be more help.

1badshee Ya I have had this problem from day one. Thanks for the replies guys I will try my dremel on one of the clips and see if that works.

I have had no luck with Pmags in the .204 either. Sometimes it won't catch the round and other times it will spring up vertical and smash the round. What brand / build of upper out of curiosity?

This. I have never had to modify a magazine to work in my .204. I use regular old 20 round mags.

And I cringe every time I see the word clip misused, dunno why.

Try a different magazine, or different follower. There should not be any way for the bolt to grab 2 rounds, unless you have spread the feed lips out so far that the rounds lie side by side or something.

I'll just leave this here for no obvious reason lol

It's a blatant display of ignorance.
Embarrassing because they are totally different. Sure not interchangeable.
The problem goes back to ignorant gun writers who are clueless. Most gun writers have never seen a clipper strip in their life. Therefore they have no problem calling a magazine a clip because they have never seen a clip.

So NPG is blatantly ignorant or not well versed? Big deal we the "important ones" know what people are saying really no matter if they call it a clip, a " clipper strip" a.k.a. a stripper clip (the blatant ignorance) or a magazine. Like saying someone is ignorant when they call a bullet ("a small metal projectile, part of a cartridge, for firing from small arms" http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bullet ) ammo. Not really ignorance just not well versed.

Oh hey NPG. Hope you like the re loader.

P.S. Lets try and make anyone under 500 posts feel somewhat comfortable. Yes even you cbass (Posts: 449).

Ouch....Sorry I asked!!! I will try a new MAGIZINE.

Thanks UTAHSHOOTER I am sure the reloader will work fine.

NPG, Don't be sorry, it is very common and that is part of what makes me cringe.
I hope you let us know if a new Mag fixes the problem.

The main reason I mentioned it had nothing to do with you. I have 3 younger brothers, and we shoot quite often. However each one of them says clip every time they refer to a mag. Now to me that is little different than calling the trigger a toaster, so I usually respond when they, say, ask for me to hand them a "Clip" is to respond with, here is the "Maaaaagaaaaaziiiiine"(whispered pointedly). On Christmas Eve at the range this happened 2 or 3 times.
Finally My brother Cameron asked for me to hand him one of my Glock "CLIPS and I said (Whispered) It's not a clip,... It's a MAGAZINE!(not whispered). His response?
"Shut up and hand me the clip, Mr dictionary" LOL

Hey NPG, I hope this is an answer to you problem and an end to this thread of the clip/mag dedate that always develops with similar questions.

Try cleaning the bolt and checking gas-ring as well. I know as a fact they can cause problems feeding if really dirty or a slight gas leak emerges near the rings.

I personally DO NOT have a .204 but have had finicky issues with reloads I cooked up ( these solely caused by a fowled bolt) for my .223.

By the way, I can relate to your clip/mag lesson by others. I learned via a different forum about guns and guns only, they all drilled me to a point of anger that their wives put them in everyday.

Good Luck and happy shooting/hunting

P.S.
Let's go start a new thread " Why does my clip
wobble in the mag-well?"
