I have built around a half dozen and I will make a few recommendations.....
-If you are running suppressed go with an adjustable gas block
-Suppressor bang for your buck......Otter Creek Labs or YHM
-Barrel 18 or 20 inch 8 twist (Wylde chamber if you are going with .223)
If you are building the entire thing yourself, put your money in the trigger and barrel. The rest of the parts IME just doesn't have a significant enough impact to justify spending a whole bunch on with little return in accuracy.
X-Caliber barrels are great. For a stripped upper, I recommend a BCM Blem for $50-$80 depending on if they are on sale. You have to heat up the threads with a heat gun in order to get the barrel to slide in. I always square the face of the receiver also. Add a good trigger and you will be happy with how it shoots.
