AR15 Look-a-Like Accuracy?

To answer your original question: there is some junk out there, and a lot of bad shooters, as I am sure you have witnessed with all that NRA instruction and what not. I would have thought that simple observation of those on the range might have answered this as poor techniques are easy to spot. That being said, were they rifles or M4gery carbines with standard handguards or were they "target models" with free floated barrels, perhaps heavy and/or stainless? It makes a huge difference. Surely with all that NRA instruction you've seen many AR's that will shoot ragged little holes at 100, 200, and 300 yards, and even shoot well below MOA at 600, right? Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, RRA, Oly, J&T will all shoot dead nuts. I'm sure there is some garbage out there, but all my AR's will shoot well under the size of a quarter, every time, at 100 yards.

I dont think its the rifles fault but the shooters. I cant count on my fingers and toes of how many poeple i know have some kind of AR-15 and dont hunt. They have it laying around to look cool because they saw it on some TV show! I've gone to the range with these guys and they dont shoot any better than what you have posted. I purchased a Bushmaster Varminter last year, had the upper cryogenicaly frozen, installed a jard 2lb single stage trigger and a Leupold mark 4.5 x 14 tacticle scope. I reloaded some 40 grain combine technology bullets with benchmark powder and on my first try at the range I shot a 4 shot group at 100yds that made one ragidy hole in the target that you can cover up with a dime. The point being the majority of people out on the range with this type of rifle arent your normal marksman and the minority of others are people who probably wouldnt want to wind up in their crosshairs!

I can't think of any rifle I've ever used or seen used that wouldn't hit an 8" target at 50yds 100% of the time. Sounds like a totally untrained newbie problem. If you don't feel like teaching or they don't feel like being taught, you might find an opportunity to buy that "worthless piece of crap" at a bargain price.

I have a couple of cop friends who are exceptional marksmen. Their father (my shooting partner) taught them to shoot from 4 and 5 years old. They are definitely the exception though, most of the cops I've known are terrible marksmen, and really stress out when the time comes for range qualification.
