Are feral cats varmints?

I used to own two cats. They were kept indoors at all times for the reasons that have been listed alreardy. I shot cats when I owned cats and I still do. Even cats that are in a nieghborhood are not all pets. I have at least a dozen in mine that are feral. I think it is great sport shooting them, if they are not within a couple hundred yards of a HOUSE then they are fair game. Just wish I could figure out a safe way to thin them out around my house.

Talon,

Hav-a-hart traps work great. If it's your neighbors cat you can turn it loose with no harm. If it's a feral cat you can either shoot it or take it to the animal shelter.

If you use one, leave one door closed and put a can of sardines in the back of the trap. Then stick a rock under the front side of the trigger so that it has to step on the back of the trigger to set it off. That keeps them from backing out before the door has a chance to close and latch.

Best o' luck to ya!

Havaharts are great--if you have a heart. My vote goes to a conibear for a more permanent thinning out. Just have to make sure there are no kids about and that kitty is the only species to make the last head stab.... And if the coast is clear, CB caps work just fine if you're confident of your markmanship.

For those who cannot step out the back door and touch off a hand cannon I have a suggestion to this problem. Get your hands on a powerful airgun RWS makes a some good ones. Wait till late evening take some chicken of the sea and place it where you can lessen the cat population out of prying eyes. You can figure out the rest.

I worked at our local Humane Society for three years. You would not believe the "crap" that I saw come in and go out of that place. I had this "heated" discussion with many of my co-workers....
If most people saw what a feral cat went through and would do to a person trying to get them out of a Have_A_Heart Trap, shooting them in their own enviroment is a MUCH better option, believe me. They will rip you to shreds! I would much rather deal with a rabid pitt-bull then a feral cat. My opinion and no one will change it!!!

Thanks for the Ideas guys. I don't want to buy hav-a-harts, I would do conibears but the neighbor kids can't learn to stay out of my yard. I do like kids, I even have one. I have been thinking about an airgun for a while so I just may do that. I might move soon to a more rural setting and the cb caps will get the nod if I go there, more fun I think.

I would put up my treestand and sit there over a can of tuna or sardines late at night with my bow. I have often wondered what my muzzys would do to a feline.

Some of you guys sound like one of my friends. If there is a cat around him it is deadmeat. Only cat left in the neighborhood is his next door neighbors. It only lives because he claims it doesnt do any harm. I don't really blame him. When he bought his new truck the paint scratched by the neighborhood cats the first night he had it home. To tell the truth I am starting to agree with him more and more. Especially after seeing the damage a cat did to a mobile home I bought recently. They are disgusting animals. Wish I had a highpower air rifle to deal with the ones around here.

Actually they are pretty hard to get under a tree stand. They seem to be more "aware" of things than, say a deer. I have no experience with muzzy's, but the Rotthar Snuffers I have connected with worked splendid. Cats have to be the most spectacular animals when it comes to reacting to the shot. Cartwheels that Olympians would be jealous of are performed in the blink of an eye...
